Try to sort out a not perfect idle condition. The idle goes slowly down to 800rpm or so and then occasionally jumps to 1.2K rpm before it goes back to normal. When it does it, it feel like is actuated by something. I am suspecting the idle stepper motor may need some service. Has anybody done this with good results? Hayenes manual suggests is removed cleaned and then put back with a new gasket.

Spray carb cleaner is probably the easiest way.

You may be able to get away without a new gasket.

Check also for sticking or overtight throttle cable.

Basically, the ECU sets the idle speed unless something else tells it different. if the different instructions seem wrong to the ECU, fight. Hence the hunting idle.

Cheers, I wanted to change the leads anyway soon and the cover will be off, so I will give it another go with a carb cleaner and see how it goes. A bit reluctant to touch the motor yet as idle is not that bad and is not worth the trouble if something goes wrong while I am at it.
