These really slim active subs look just what I might get for the laguna, don't want anything big and the sound is fine just want to buy something for my car lol.

They say that they take "speaker level input". Does that mean I can, for example, connect to the rear left speaker cables or would this have a large affect on the rear left speaker? What else would I need to connect to it, a 12v cable? How do these things switch off? I thing you have a cable on the HU that does this? If so dammit, it's the Renault standard HU and doubt it has one?

Cheers
Paul

Umm i'll help with what i can....

The power cable to turn it on and off is the P.continous or the Power Aerial cable....

Connect to speakers don't think it will work
Not to hot with these powered subs but would imagine it still need to be from some kind of pre-out?

Speaker level input = you connect its inputs across the cars speaker wiring (in parallel with speakers). Speaker level inputs have very high resistance so it wont affect the speakers.
Wiring: if the cars got an electric ariel you can use that as the remote switching line (its just a +12v low-current output). Otherwise, just fit a switch in the sub's power supply cable and connect it to both the sub's main power input AND the remote switching input.

active sub will want wiring in like an amp at a guess ie amp wiring kit

which will have phono's - from hu to sub, power from batt to sub, earth to sub, remote lead from hu (to turn the sub on/off with headunit) :)

Cheers Jamie :)

One of the auctions says:

This auction is for one SRV303 active subwoofer with built in 120W High Power amplifier.

Features include:

20cm air-compression counter drive active subwoofer

120W max power integral amplifier

Detachable control panel with 5.0m cable

Compact size allows flexible mounting options - under seat or in boot

RCA or speaker level inputs allow connection to any type of radio

Low pass filter (50 / 70 / 100 / 120Hz)

Frequency response 20 - 200Hz

Dimensions 330W x 75H x 230D (mm)

" RCA or speaker level inputs allow connection to any type of radio" - I am guessing it means I can do it. Do all headunits have P.cont or power aerial? I bet with it being a renault HU it doesn't.

ach it sounds like a lot of work to do on a car which unlike my uno, doesn't have holes everywhere to stick stuff through!

CHeers Jonny and ghost. It doesn't have electric aerial just a roof aerial as normal. Even if i got it dirt cheap (it has the wiring kit with it) i will need to:

a) work out switching on/off
b) route a power cable to it
c) Connect to speaker cables

I think most HU will have a power aerial i can check at the weekend for you....

is yours the one with a tape and a cd player?

If yeah i'll rip my dads laguna apart.... and see what i can find (y)

If the radio comes on with the ignition, just identify which wire is the HU's switched feed (multimeter job), and tap off that for the switching (y)

Ah yes, so I use the ignition feed, good idea. Sure mum won't mind me doing all this to her "beautiful car" It's weird, before with my uno she was so controlling but i was like "i'm driving to luton instead of train" and she replied "good idea" before it would have been "HAHHAHA!"

If I remember correctly it's this headunit:

Can't believe how much people will pay just because it's the genuine part - I don't want to change it because it works wiht the main display and the remote control on the steering.

Well I am just reminding myself it's a 1.8?! Will change it now.

Yep, definitely mine now, insured from 19th of next month (first day of easter hols) - can't wait. Could have it from next friday but I daren't keep it here, would be stolen within an hour and also insurance wouldn't like it.

I want something nice to put in it, I should have kept the sat nav i suppose but oh well.

the stereo probbaly has an elec arial pin on teh back. the active sub you mention is just like teh fiat punto sub. it runs of the electrical arial pin even though it dont have an electric arial on the car.

the sub recives its signals from the normal rear right and left speakers. the wires split when they get to back of car one set going to sub one to the speakers.

Paul, you'll have to let me know what the sound is like from them. I was (and still might) buy two to put under the front seats, could do with a bit more depth up front!

Sorry forgot about this thread. Somebody bidded, my maximum is £30 + £10 postage, I know it's worth a lot more but not to me personally so unlikely I will get it. There's a rubbishy looking blaupunkt one on too which I am keeping my eye on.

Cheers fishdude.

If I get it I won't have anything to compare to though, only ever been in a car with a sub once in my life!
