Say if someone was to hit you and its not your fault, writes the car off etc. Does it still mean you loose your no claims and your insurance goes up for the next 5 years? even though its not your fault?

Hi Angie,

Don't tell me this is your newly engined Punto that's been hit.

No claims bonus is just that. It's not a no fault bonus. If you don't claim or you claim and your insurance company recovers 100% of the cost from the other party or his/her insurance company then your bonus would remain intact.

I really hope after all the trouble you've had that it isn't your car.

Dave.

the punto still isnt done. am trying to get a mechanic out to look at it and im hoping its not the engine that was no good in the first place. im still playing a waiting game and im still off the road.

no its not my punto that has been hit although ill be throwing it off the nearest bridge soon :)

i was just wondering that if i 'was' to get hit, then how its affect the insurance cause obviously ive never gone throught the claim process before....being a careful driver lol. If it was 100% their fault and the claim went through in my favour etc, would it add a few hundred onto my insurance cost.

It would depend on whether your insurance company managed to get all the money back from the other party's insurance company. If they did, then your NCB wouldn't be affected. If they didn't, then most insurance companies would reduce your NCB by 2 years for a first claim. As i said above, NCB is nothing do do with fault, it depends on whether it costs the insurance company any money or not.

Some insurance companies don't bother to investigate the incident and just call it 'knock for knock' whereby they say you were both partly to blame so you both loose some of your NCB. Bas***ds

Dave.

cheers dave.

well i wouldnt have any ncb to lose as i havnt been driving a year but i would be looking forward to my insurance getting halved next year not doubled should someone run into the back of me.
