Well, if you want a comparison heres how some other cars i know of fair up:

My old micra - 137K until written off, always started first time.

Mates K reg polo CL - 150k good as new, vw's really are that reliable

Ford KA and festa - notice the speedos dont actually go up to 100K, does that mean ford dont expect them to get there!?

Mates 903cc uno - engine clapped out and went to scrap heap at 80K

i would guess cinq is in middle ground between vw's and fords?

I know a few people who have had over 130,000 out of festers and Novas. VW engines are built to last, but aren't very efficient IMO.

Yeah, two of my mates have Polo GT's (constantly ragged to the bone) both pushing 135k each and no sign of death yet!

It all depends on good, regular servicing to be honest. On my first Renault 5 GT Turbo I had every problem going from rear brake callipers seizing on, over heating, head gasket failure, turbo going after 3 weeks (covered by warranty) oil pump going etc etc & on a 75,000mile car running standard, but on my 2nd one i had in the end well over 125,000miles (from 90,000) with out a problem in 3 years of ownership and nearly 200bhp. K-tec racings old demo car had 300+bhp & 275,000 miles on the original head & bottom end, ok it had been fettled with many many times but goes to show! :D

My mates standard Golf MK3 2L GTi is an absolute dog, it's now got 117,000 on it & it's beyond repair, he got it at 80,000miles and has spent in excess of £400 every MOT on niggly stuf, not to mention the clutch exploding, the ECU giving up, the door barrels disintegrating so that the only way into the car was thro the boot, the list go's on & on & on, & he bought it as he perceived them to be reliable, VW & most of the German manufacturers rely on past glories & very good press departments. ;)

My wifes M reg "pink Cinq" we have owned since new and has just done 70,000 miles. Just replaced the tappets and it's running like new again. Other than that it blew a head gasket once, front shocks, rear radius arm and that's about it apart from tyres and exhaust in 10 years of motoring (y)

On the other hand my L reg Mini Cooper Spi has done 150,000 on its second engine and I have shares in the local mini specialist :bang:

Tony.

It's done 123,000 miles - all but 10K of it has been travelled by the lady herself - and it's still going strong. Steve, you're right - if looked after they will last.
Eee to b talked about - should have felt me ears burning ;)

Yup above is correct - bought car on 14 Feb 1998 when it was 14 months old with 10,123 miles on clock and it's now done 123,500 odd and still going strong :D

I've attached a momentous moment!
