Technical cinq sporting reverse cable

my 1 cinq sporting reverse cable has eaten itself and there is nothing left of the top part that attaches to the screw at the top of the gearstick.

i cant find another one of these anywhere so have taken the 1 off my other cinq to get a copy made.

out of interest is there any way to do away with the cable completely and still go into reverse?

my other cinq (il call it cinq #1 ) didnt go into reverse until i took the cable out the gearbox and put a blanking plug in.

Cinq #2 : taken the cable off both ends and it goes into reverse but not 5th.

Cinq #3 : cable broken at gearstick, goes into 5th but not reverse.

im a bit confused as there doesnt seem to be a pattern.

any help would be great, i need it sorted soon, m.ot is coming up.
