anyone had a chip in a punto 55 (mines a 96 model). if so any noticeable change in performance without problems.. such as not starting as i can see has been a problem for many... plus stil for sale and stil at £40???? may be interested if so
 
not heard of any problems of it not starting

like i said, i test ran a cinq chip, well whole ECU, in a punto and it worked fine. i think the offical line would be something like, it should work - but it's not been tested, it is a cinquecento / seicento chip at heart
 
cheers, i mite look elsewere then! if anyone can recomend a good chip under 100£ for a punto 55 it wud b much apreciated
 
the chip will fit in any ECU that has the same epron chip holder. the problem is that the chip is designed for the cinqucento engine - the 1108 Fire SPI. therefore you could put it in an ecu for a 1.2 16v. But - the chip was mapped for the 1108 engine so will be thinking like it is still a 1108 enigne, so mixings and timings will be well out. this means that basically you are putting the whole engine at risk for example if the ecu decides it dosent like the readings coming from the lambada sensor it could advance timings, change mixture etc...
the ecu is designed to have a window for settings like these, allowng them to be changed and deemed safe. but using the chip in a different engine - the ecu may be running the engine in a window it thinks should be safe but for engine itslef it is way aout and damn right dangerous! have you even seen an engine blow from its timings being advanced to much?? messy!

Basically the chips designed for the 1108 eninge so will work best in the 1108! if you go putting it in different cars..... well then your playing with fire!
 
course it would like it! the chip works in a punto 55 its the same engine and providing its the same ECU then yes it will be fine, but how do you know if you not a specialist that its not damaging the engine in anything other then the 1108?? tried and tested maybe, not trying to argue. jsut if its says developed for 1108 then it will have a downfall in other engines.
 
Ok, i tell you what, instead of arguing with me. go ask oldskool, he was round my house 2 nights ago, had a long chat about this exact subject. what i said was basically from him. hes a very clever bloke, willing to answer anything, he also knows both engines inside out. :slayer:
 
The chip is the eprom chip on the ecu
It holds the fuel map for the engine

The fuel map from an 1108 and a 1242cc engine wont be miles different

You've got to remember that the amount of fuel is increased in the chip to provide more power for the 1.1 engine so in a 1.2 that might just mean no power increase

I've sent my money to mckrich today for a chip and will be fitting it into a 1.2 ecu and a 1.2 engine on a punto 60s

I will let you know how things go - I will also be having the car rolling roaded and will fit a lamdbda sensor into the ecu to make sure the lambda readings are still within tolerance

If they are then everything is fine - the only way you would reck the engine would be running silly advance on the ignition timing or running the fuel mixture lean

I dont believe the chip alters the ignition timing its just an altered fuel map and should really be fine
 
Oh and one of my mates here in lincoln has just fitted a 1242cc engine into his cinq with a mckrich chip and he's running wild cams aswell

The car runs absolutely fine :)

so why are you choosing to be so argumentitive? we have yet to hear of problems with the chip on both engines and even oldschool recommends it for the 1108 spi.
really all you can do is go on experiences and as it stands there no problem on either 1108/1242.
some people just like to great an argument.if oldschool feels theres a potential problem im sure he will raise it,though would have thought he may have done before since he did a head for arc
 
Arc - your running a mcrich chip on a 1242cc engine
Are you using a 1242 ecu or a 1108 ecu?

I'm not aruging with you, and you don't need to tell me that I already know.

Orange, i am using my 1108's ECU with a mckrich chip in it.

I've bought an 1108 ECU from a guy on here thats not soldered - going to fit the chip into that and give it a run

Will report back on progress
 
didnt mean to start an argument there! advice taken on both sides tho. mite get the chip when cashflow is lookin abit better. any increase in performance on my 55 wud b immense lol.. kinda needs it
 
Well my mate in lincoln (badger on these forums) has a 1242cc engine in his cinq running a fast road cam

He is using an 1108 ecu with a mckrich chip and has been for over a week now with no problems at all

If the fuel map is rich enough for a fast road cam Im sure it will be fine in a standard engine :D

Anyway like I said I'll make sure I post my findings after the weekend :)
