Technical Cinq Sporting Performance Chip

hi after reading all the threads on the chip my head is batterd,i have a R reg sei sporting abarth, and am thinking of fixin this chip to it so i phoned my fiat garage to enquire about reliability, obviousley the bloke was a bloody geek knew sod all about cars he onley said uuuuuuu dont know but i can sell you a new fiat grandia , i then told him im planing to spend 40 to 50 quid not nine grand he replied thats all the whole cars are worth ,ithen asked him wat u drive , answer was a volvo ,i pissed my self laughhin YOU SAD GIT YOURS IS ONLY WORTH £25 SCRAP at this stage he called me a f*****g t**t i replied you must have worked for rover before he said yes by this stage i was gasping for breath as ive never laughed so hard before.
so please can somone help me,is it reliable, does it lower fuel consumption as mine does 98 miles to a tenner motorway driving to work.this is great for my pocket

when was last time you had a service? no leaks or anything? i would look at these as a way of improving fuel consumption if BMW 318's do better than that

Update for you all

Girlfriends Punto 60s 1.2 8v

I bought a 1.1 ECU from a fiat 500 (according to the sticker) from a lad on here (sorry mate forgot your name at the moment LOL) as the 1.2 8v ecu was soldered

Bought a mckrich chip - both arrived day after paying so really impressed

Put the chip into the ecu and decided to go over to the car to give it a go last night

Fired up first time (after 3 months being stood still) with a very lumpy idle

Held the revs at around 1500 for 5 minutes then let it idle for 5 minutes

Then took it for a drive - some idling round town and then a long 70mph dual carriageway drive

Idling is now perfect, it feels very quick for a 1.2 almost keeping up with my 90bhp 1.4 pug 106 until 80

So all in all I'm very impressed

Well done mkrich - you just saved me at least £100 on the repair bill, and my girlfriend is over the moon that she's got an R reg 80k mile punto 60s for £370!! :worship:

How Do I Get One Of These Chip Are They Still Available And How Much Thanks

Interesting thread.

10 people using chip in 1242 about 50:50 split between 1108 and 1242 ECUs. No reported problems.

In many ways I'm not surprised that the chip works with the 1242. The way the IAW 16F series of ECUs works is by setting the timing and mixture by reference to engine speed, lambda reading, and temperature. Using a set of formulas that calculate the timing and mixture at different rev ranges The critical reading for the mixture is the Lambda. Contrary to popular belief the way to get more power out of most engines is to slightly lean out the mixture and advance the timing. The standard setup runs slightly rich and slightly retarded from the optimum burn ratio. This is to cope with crap petrol and to build in a wide safety margin for the manufacturer.

You pays your money and takes your choice, I give a full money back guarentee, BBR and superchips don't.

I'm not in competition with Rolling Road Setups, if you can afford it and can justify the cost, I'd go for for it. Personally its way outside my budget.

Regards,

Michael

Going to buy the McKRich chip for my 96 Cinq 1.1 Sporting however i got a question for you fine fellows:

!. I really want to keep the immobiliser on the car, so im going to get the slightly more expensive chip. McKRich saya that he needs the code off of the chip so that it he can decode the new one for me.How do i go about getting this code? How many digits is it and do i have to take the chip out to find out the code.

Oh and is the 96 Sporting Cinq ECU soldered or not? Many thanks for the help so far.

Disconnect and open the ECU and you will see the chip in there, it is pretty obvious. You will have to remove the plasic retainer over it and the details are obvious on the Label, just give Mike everthing

On a 96 you will probably be OK as it is usually the later ones that are soldered but if it has had an ECU change you will never know.

Hi all,
I've had the Mckcrich universal chip installed in my Cinq for a couple of weeks now and I have to say I'm very happy with it. It now has more torque at low revs and is more responsive, which certainly helps when carrying passengers. I'm also confident that it will improve the fuel economy over time because I will be using lower revs to achieve the same performance as before.

Just a side note - the Mckcrich chip seems to register faults a bit differently to the standard one. My car had an injector fault light on (solid) with no reduction in performance with the standard chip. With the Mckcrich chip the light flashed before becoming solid and the revs were limited to ~4500rpm. The fault turned out to be a faulty coolant temp sensor on the inlet manifold and has been fixed. The car runs perfectly now and I can't fault it.

Thankyou very much Michael for the excellent chip!

cheers,

James

Just to add. My 1242 cinq was running a Mckrich chip with a 40mm throttle body, 75 cam, cat back exhaust system and GSR induction kit. No reported problems whatsoever.. infact, it ran perfect except for the idle but i expect this was more to do with the cam and other mods/another problem rather than the chip :) rev was just a bit rough.

Anyway, get one! they are super dooper :p

if the chip is soldered in can it be taken out nd the mckrick one soldered in, i can solder no problems i just dont want to get one solder it in then find out it doesnt work because iv damaged it when solering it in. (not checked my ECU yet so dont know whether it is soldered, but due to broken hand cant check at the minute)

well how old is your car then?

unless its a late model youve got nothing to worry about :D

also, if your worried, i got a unsoldered chip you can have cheap :)

right folks i am very interested in 1 of these...in fact 99% certain i gonna get one.

one thing i need clearin up is:

i am runnin a 98 punto 60sx (1242cc 8v) now what ECU do i need (ie out a cinq, older punto or what) to fit the chip to for best results? i want to keep the use of my immobiliser... how much am i lookin at for one of these ECUs?

thanks in advance...
