Hi
I have a cinq on hand (from 1998), and are temted to buy it and make another turbo cento :)
I have the last couple nights have been reading about how different ones has placed a 1242 8v engine and turbo in a cento.

From what I can read is a good recipe:
1242 8v, + pistons and root's from 16v.

so far so good :) but wish other parts are best?

what intake manifold is best? punto 75? is there a bette one?
Can you buy an exhaust manifold that is turbo mounting prepared? Which is best?

What other parts should I buy?
I would like to build a very high-boost engine. Can i get close to 180bhp ? or is 160 all (still a lot ! :D )

I have read at a fuel upgrade i nessery, whis i pumpe to get ?
Watter pump upgrade, so no hot spots in engine.

I read in another thread that the gear box which would give the highest gearing would be from the punto 55? is it true? with all the BHP it would be nice to be able to reach 100kph in 2nd

So whis parts is the best to buy ? a buyers list please :)

another q: Have any one built a 1242 16v with decom plate and high boost?
or is the 8v just as good ?

The P75 inlet mani will only fit a MPI head. Otherwise the Uno 45 one is good. My opinion is that the P75 mani is pretty carp, but it canbe modified into something useful.

You don't get lots of HP through high boost (beyond a certain limit) -- I think to get 180 bhp (or even 160) you'll need a bigger turbo than the usual T15 -- you'll suffer lag as a result.

A search will tell you what fuel pump to use -- one person has fitted an electric water pump (I think). Much of the rest is in the FAQs.

A decomp plate on a 16v motor may lead to valve timing problems -- note also that there is a turbo option for the new 500 -- Abarth and esse esse (SS to the rest of us). That engine has been ruggedised by the factory.

thank you

uno 45 it is not spi? would it not be a lot of work to get enough petrol in ? there has to be made extra gasoline nozzles i think.
Could i use anything from a 1,4 on an 1242 8v? inlet outlet?

Turbo wise i think T2 or T25, but i need a system that will flow alot of air, and a cento got small pipes, so thats why i ask questions.
I have a friend who uses a garrett t2 in his sei 1108cc with decom plate, his motor is with original novitec steering box, so he makes only 101hp.
But there isn't alot lag when he put his foot down.

There must be a why to adjust the valves on the 1242 16V after one fitted a decomp plate ?

a high boost turbo cento will cost you that matey, forged pistons or not. So makes little difference, if your building one from scratch then do it properly is my opinion..
No i don't have forged low-comp pistons in mine, just the VA machined items, i make do with it as i have it already, if it decided to destroy a piston though new forged items would be on the cards..

@ OP: decomp plate will work fine on an 8v engine as long as it is made properly, my old one had a decomp plate for 3 owners and non of us had a problem with it.

The best way (which may turn out to be relatively cheap) is to find the engine, ancilliaries and gearbox from a crashed 500 Abarth (or SS) or the Pungo equivalent. Use an aftermarket ECU (or find some way to use the stock ECU and keep the ESP).

That way you'll have a reliable 160 or 180 bhp, a motor that has already been modified to suit a turbo, etc. Be prepared to do some fab work on the manifolds, though.........

My guess is that doing it properly on the basis of an 1108 or 1242 8v will be a fair bit more expensive.................

The 500 Abarth is 160, and the Abarth SS 180 IIRC. I think the Punto equivalents are the same (same engine). Will be hard to find, although the standard 500 1.4 16v engines are easy enough to get now (Stilo, Punto, etc.). Oldschool has had the turbo mill to bits and says it's well different.

Pretty important to get the gearbag (free clutch and flyheel included!) too.

I asked this before along with some other things, never really got the answer: is only the pistons, or pistons + rods that need replacing?

Cheers,

Woj
