In order to put my Sony PSOne in my Uno's glovebox, i need to install a cigarette lighter, so the console can run off that. which is what it is designed for. Obviously i can get the lighter from a scrap yard or my local fiat specialist (not a dealer). Only problem is i have no idea how to wire it up!!!!!
please please someone must have done this before or could help me?
dont worry i dont smoke! ha.
thanks.

Will the console run from 12v DC or do you have a PS1 in-car adapter which needs the power socket (aka ciggie lighter).

The easiest way to wire the power socket up will be to tap into a 12v+ somewhere in the cabin. I'm not familure with the wiring in Unos so can't advise where to get a decent size unswitched 12v from.
To avoid disturbing your current wiring you could run a cable from the power socket all the way to the battery (obviously with an in-line fuse) in the same way you would with an amplifier. Hope this is of some help.

ok thanks a lot i will have a peak for the wires later! i have the in car adapter which is easier and cheaper to wire up instead of running it off the battery.
i found a thread where someone was installing the lighter in a panda which cant be much different.
theres a clock too? where does that go in higher spec unos?

totnes monster...are you from totnes?

On Mk2 Unos the clock (digital) goes in a small blanking panel below the ashtray and above the vents. Wires were there behind the dash in my Uno (Mk2), so i guess they're there in all of them.

I am originally from the totnes area, do you know it? Not here for long though as moving to Italy for 4 months at the end of January!

there are no wires under the ashtray except for the rear foglights etc.
im gonna have to trace them from the fuse box. unless anyone knows where else they could be?
hmmm might install a clock too!
yes i am from newton abbot in devon which is not far from totnes!
wow.

small world, I drive around in a bit of a ratty G reg red Mk2, not so many about anymore......

Yours is a Mk 2 isn't it? As mine is only the base 45 model but the wires were there, I think they may have been shoved down behind the dash a bit, but i would think they'd be there on all unos if they're on mine....? Maybe they changed on later cars though.

ahh i think ive seen it. is it a red 3door?
yes mine is a Mk2 1994 Lreg.
Maybe i should purchase a torch to help me look? thats the best idea. i will try source the wires from the fuse box. shouldnt be too hard.
Look out for my car :) i live in ogwell opposite the totnes road so your bound to see me!
Il be the young **** with a white bonnet stripe, lancia alloys, and a loud exhaust on a navy blue 5door uno!!

No, mines a 5 door, half faded red (T-cutted one side, then got bored), and at the moment very dirty. You'd probably hear it before you saw it as the alternator bearings squeal like pigs, will fix soon though...

Usual commuting route is totnes to exeter via A38, so don't see newton that often, but will keep a look out. The Uno still does 400 miles most weeks so no complaints there, now has 181,000 on the clock!! Should get a rest next year when I finally get the 4x4 panda back on the road....

I explained this in a thread about 18 months ago and how there is a plug at the back of the fuse box found doing voltage tests across spare plugs behind there and pulling out the cigarette lighter fuse until you lose the voltage :)

that seems like a mighty good idea because i cant find where the lighter wires trail off to! was thinking of un-clipping the fuse box and inserting new wires so i can lead the lighter wires where i want to!

Used to drive through totnes every mornin in my green Brava to go to Plymouth (live in Torquay) over the summer. Took my yellow Stilo down there a few times over xmas. And my Bro with the Schumi used to work in Totnes, how funny.

i found what i think is an external power outlet for the lighter, or any item (electric windows etc) which is near the fuse box. dont think i can plug in the light for the lighter but it doesnt matter. i tested it and it works. just gonna put in an inline fuse, just incase!! thanks for your help guys.

Strange, got lots of family in Totnes (two Uncles who run a garage - Dart Motors) and i spent two years at Kevics doing my A'Levels.
