This is my first post, please be gentle with me:) My daughter has a bright yellow 2002 sci sporting which she loves. I got her a sat nav for her birthday but she has found the cigarette lighter socket will not hold the 12v power adapter for the sat nav. The cigarette lighter socket is definitely live. I have got a universal Halfords cigarette lighter as a replacement and have got the old one out and new one in but the block connector terminal attached to the cars wiring does not look in any way like it will fit the new socket. please could someone tell me how to go about wiring the new one up.
Thanks,

I've always found the Cento lighter sockets a bit iffy when used with any adaptor.

I think that if I had only one car (and if I still had a sat nav instead of a free Blackberry app) I'd hardwire a 12v socket in somewhere.

I'd make it permanently live, too.

Without seeing it, I've no real ideas, but I'd be inclined to cut and solder (and heat shrink insulate) from the old connector to the new ciggy lighter socket.

The standard socket is only live with ignition on to prevent kiddies starting a fire donno why since they can just as easily release the handbrake and go for a shopping trolly joy ride.

This may not be what you need in which case you need a new fused wire from the fuse box or some other non switched accessory e. g. the interior light or radio supply you need a fuse that will blow early and won't melt the wire you draw current from.

Some one may try a fag lighter which is high current

My autos socket also won't do many accessories but I eventually got an extension lead that is ok and has three sockets.
