Chrome wheels or not?

Chrome wheels or not?

I'm just after some opinions cos I cant make my mind up and I'm about to spend quite a bit of money.

Before I ever bought my car I had my mind set on getting alloys that are really open and delicate, and in chrome. I've just found the wheels I want (below is a REALLY REALLY bad impression!!), but the chrome ones are £150 more than the shadow chrome.

Waddya recon, is chrome a bit OTT on a car that isn't totally maxed?

My car is screaming out for alloys, but no shops stock chrome wheels and none of them are willing to get any in unless I say I'm definately going to have them, so I can't try them on and see how it looks.

Save up for a respray first Ben ;)

Just kiddin, I think the wheels would look nice - much better than my HLX ones anyway!! :)

Re: Re: Chrome wheels or not?

i can see your predicament and despite the fact that chrome wheels will look good, i think judging by the colour of your car that smoked chrome would look nicer as your car is grey. Just my first thoughts although obviousley i would have to see in real life to make my final decision.

Chrome Wheels

I really like the look of the wheels on the car but just a little word of warning. I had BK121's in Chrome on my last car and I kerbed a couple of them quite badly. Only trouble is then nowhere in the UK can refinish them for you. I was told that the only place that could do them was in Germany and it would have cost me more than the price of a new rim. Don't want to be a stick in the mud but also don't want you to spend mega bucks and feel pissed off. If you still go ahead just park about a mile off the kerb just to be on the safe side.....

Hows the front spoiler for your fella. is he happy with it/got it sprayed yet??

Spoiler?

Not relating to the wheels, but is that a Pi spoiler you've got there?

If so, mine arrived yesterday so I've got to get it sprayed and fitted. How much is this likely to cost?

Also is it bolted on or glued on or a bit of both. Or neither. Sticky-backed plastic perhaps?

Nice looking car anyway!!

Re: Spoiler?

Its bolted on with a bolt each side and one in the middle. Didn't feel too good about drilling holes in my boot, but it seemed too heavy to glue, plus needed to be flexed in to a snug fit so I doubt any glue would have held it tight enough.

I painted it myself (with a spray-can that they mix up for you- that way you get a wide, flat spray instead of a crappy round one) Had a complete nightmare really cos the plastic primer I used didn't want to stick and reacted all funny, totally F%$£*ing up the finish til I sanded it all back down again. Plus any laquer I put on (thankfully I only did the underside) seemed to react with the paint too, so the top side is currently un-laquered! Not sure what I did wrong.

Basically, the finish is now Ok, but DIY painting isn't the way forward!!

No cellotape then...

Thanx Ben. It looks good, I must say. Will probably see if a body shop can spray mine as my DIY skills are sh*te at best. Are there any cables or anything to worry about when drilling?

Cheers.
