hey guys can anyone help i recently done a punto 1242 convertion in my uno 1.0 ie start and about a week later my choke unit started playing up the car would run fine and i can be driving along and as soon as i stop the revs drop right down to about 200 -250 rpm, and if starting when cold it's imposible, at the start i thought it was the choke unit but no its not i've tried changing it 3 times and i've even changed the ecu twice just to see if it was that. the only way i can get around it is take the plug off the choke and throwing it out with 2 wirers on the battery + on the first pin and - on the second pin till the motor turns the post out put it back together and it's fine till the next time it happens witch could be hours, days or about a week. if anyone knows what it could be please let me know, by the way it's the uno spi unit and all still on it so i don't know if it is that that is causing it?

Any pictures of your work? whats it run like when its OK?

:slayer:1242 Uno :D

Sounds like you have the accelertor cable too tight? If cable too tight, the butterfly valve stays open a little and the switch on the outside of the throttle body isn't pressed.

If the switch on the side of the throttle body isn't pressed, the ECU throws one and idoles way too low (in my 1.0ie start every time). If you can keep it going by pressing the throttle a little I'd say loosen the cable, and reset the ECU.

The ECU may have learned some bad settings which you need to get rid of! Think the ECU makes a link betwwwn throttle actuator sensor and lambada or something at idle.

ECU is reset by dissconnecting the battery for 30 mins or more, then starting the car and letting idle till the fan cuts in (with no pressing of throttle or any other electrical stuff on). As soon as fan cuts in, turn off the car. (good old Moreen (y))

Are you using a distribitor? whats the vacuum advance diaphram like?

cold start may not be linked.

Thanks Louie bee, I'll try loosening the throttle cable at the weekend and reseting the ecu and i'll let you know how i get on.
Do you mean pictures of the engine change? if so sorry i don't, yeah shes running with the distrbitor and the vacum advance was not working so i got a diaphram off a volvo and adjusted the linkage and she runs perfect apart from the said problem, another thing i'm trying to do with her the now is trying to see if i can get the punto spi to work on the uno wiring loom so it's tril and error till i get the cables right.

Wahoooo! result :slayer:

Now get some pictures taken and click that little thumb up thingy below my good post to leave thanks ;)

My Mrs said her Seicento was loads better when she went from 1108 to a 1242, so guess the Uno sees loads of improvement :D

Then she had the Van Aaken turbocharger kit fitted and its Wahayyyyy.. bit pointless for an Uno as the 1301 / 1372 drops in easy LOL. Which reminds me I need to get on with my MK1

If its fueling good and running well what gains do you expect from the Punto ECU? I think when people put the 1242 into the 1108 cento they keep the ECU for 1108 engine as it soon learns what to do. Can't say either way about the 999cc ECU.

Cheers for keeping us updated!

I'm doubt if the Punto ECU would do much to be honest. The injection opening duration is probably the same as the Uno's, the only difference being the size of the 1242 Punto injector and throttle body giving a greater air fuel ratio. Just fitting a Punto 60 throttle body would give some gains with the standard Uno ECU as it will give the correct fueling for the engine compared with the Uno throttle body.

I'm not sure if the Punto uses extra sensors or stuff compared with the Uno?

Guess what my car has started playing up the day again so i will have to try reseting the ecu again so fingers crossed, i'm not wanting the punto ecu in i'm keeping the uno ecu and loom it's just to get the punto spi unit/ injector and sensors to work, and 1986Uno45S yes the 1242 Punto injector and throttle body dose have a diffrent set up of the way it's wired with 2,3 or 4 wires extra i'm trying to figer out a way of getting it to run it's really doing my head in :bang:
