Have fitted new Weber carb to my 1970F 500. The only way I can start engine from cold is by squirting Easy Start into the elbow. The choke lever has no effect. When the lever is operated there is a shaft inside the carb that moves up and down and this is working as it should. When the engine is running and warmed up you would expect putting the choke on would cause it to stall but it keeps on running the same. Any advice gratefully received.

Is the carb brand new / refurbished, or have you fitted a used carb? If it is used, I wonder if one of the tubes is blocked or something. I'd start by removing the valve thingy that is lifted by the choke arm and having a good look. Beware the spring that sits between the clip and the valve. It isn't a strong spring but it is prone to pinging off somewhere difficult to find when you remove the clip.
