Heres my experience of this chip box which i bought on ebay for £54.

My vehicle is 2010 Fiat Qubo 1.3 Multijet Dynamic with 6 speed dualogic gearbox. It has aerodynamic roof bars with 2m Rhino Tube carrier and an aluminium step ladder attached most days. The boot is full of my tools as i am a plumber, probably 100kg of equipment in total. And every other day 2 working cocker spaniels!!(y) I work in and around Brighton and Hove, and live in Worthing which is about a 24 mile fairly flat daily round trip, plus running between jobs.

I recorded (AcA) average consumption before i fitted the chip box. It read 41.6 mpg. I fitted the chip box, filled up the tank with Esso "normal" diesel and reset the trip computer.

I am currently a third of the way through this tank and the (AcA) average consumption now reads 46.0 mpg. The car feels more lively and my normally heavy foot to get the dualogic off the mark, is now smooth and less aggressive as more torque feels available. The chip box has 10 settings (1 for slow 10 for fast if you like....) i currently have it on 8.

I was certainly sceptical about these boxes, be it damaging the engine or just not delivering on performance. I have definitely changed my mind. i will post again when my tank runs out and give final trip distance and average consumption readings. Hope this is of use to anyone considering buying one, i just wish i had done it sooner!!

Morning Qubist/Fiorinoist All, I read with interest the comments about these boxes.......I run the car version Qubo, and never drop below 51 mpg, no matter what motoring I'm doing, indeed as most of you know on a run, fully loaded with 5 adults and luggage, I am in the mid to high 50s.......so I guess MPG wise I don't see that much improvement. Power wise, no idea, just know that mine pulls well in every gear, and will soon overtake other traffic, even with dropping a gear to increase acceleration.

Cheers Qube O.....

It's interesting for me as my dualogic makes the decisions. I now feel more confident with it as the extra grunt has made it smoother as well as saving fuel...my right foot is now lighter to achieve the results.

Just out of interest.........are any of you 'chippie' converts informing your insurance companies of the fitment of these boxes ??? As I understand the insurance (general) small print, it would be a requirement to let them know........

Cheers Qube O.

Told mine (LV) and as it's only a plug in mod (and not permanent)it's ok, at the end of the day its no different to plugging in a satnav, phone ect.
Other mods when i spoke to lv.
Front and rear guards.... not bothered
Alloy wheels..................not bothered
Strips to front and rear...not bothered
Brembo calipers.............not bothered
Flamm Maserati air horns.not bothered

In a nut shell they don't care as long as they get there money off you!

Hi Luigi,
Ta for that........wondered how it worked. Quite funny really that they make all this song and dance about the insured motor being original then when you tell them their 'not bothered'.........still best to let them know.

Cheers Qube O.

Having said that,my brother is with admiral and he has a lip spoiler on his bmw, even though it is a part made for his car and bought from bmw they would not insure him unless he sent them a photo with it removed:bang:

msw109,

i remember when you replied to my chip post awhile back, asking questions. glad you got one. my improvements are better than yours, you may want to play with your settings to experiment. as luigi pointed previously, these things all do the same thing...change fuel pressures. they re supposed to come out of the box optimal, yet are adjustable still further.

your numbers differ from mine. i have a 2012 and drive with a light foot and try to leave the wife out of the car to save weight :) and dont carry tools. having said that, our numbers are as follows:

you 41.6 mpg (before) 46 mpg (after)
me 42.8 mpg before) 56.5 mpg (after)

notice how similar our BEFORE numbers are...the difference between them is probably due to you carrying tools and having a heavier foot than me (im retired and live in a country where diesel goes for $9 USD/gallon hence the light foot).

consider, however, our AFTER numbers. i think you can do better. i would play with the settings a bit.

my unit came from poland and their manual stated that all improvements would NOT settle down until after 300 km's

since these chip boxes work on both the horsepower side and the economy side, i did check the FULL GAS PEDAL comparison and there is a remarkable difference. when doing this however, i take it out of dualogic so i control the shifts.

hope this helps.

BTW...im still under warranty for 1 more year and can quickly disconnect this unit before any service.

do i feel guilty if i do? comeon!

its a DIESEL ENGINE and the chip box only increases the fuel pressures and makes the engine get BETTER MPGs than it did BEFORE.

diesel engines are bombproof. they are abused worldwide.

think about it.

Hi,
If anyone has any problems with insuring chipped or re-mapped vehicles then please feel free to drop me a line.

Dan.

Hi,

We are based just outside King's Lynn - I know quite a few people who go by the name of Chris I'm afraid!

Thanks
Dan

Topped out at 46.3 mpg but I carry the world and his wife in the boot and on the roof...big improvement tho
