THE OTHER DAY I WENT TO CHANGE THE RADIATOR IN MY CAR AFTER I HAD A SMALL ACCIDENT A FEW MONTHS AGO. ITS BEEN FINE UP TILL NOW BUT SLIGHTLY WARPED SO I THOUGHT I'D REPLACE IT. AFTER INSTALATION OF THE NEW RAD I FILLED IT AND WAS BLEEDING THE SYATEM AND GOT A BIG AIR LOCK. I OPENED THE BLEED SCREWS AND GOT ALL THE AIR OUT. ALL WAS OK AND THEN I STARTED TO GET A SLIGHT KNOCKING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE SO I ASSUMED IT WAS DAMAGING THE HEAD AND SWITCHED IT OFF. tOOK THE HEAD APART TO REPLACE THE GASKET ( I DONE A COMPRESSION TEST TO SEE IF ANY PROBS AND THE NUMBER 4 CYLINDER WAS FUKED. NOW I HAD PROBS GETTING THE CORRECT SOCKET TO REMOVE THE HEAD BOLTS BUT I'VE MANAGED TO GET ONE FROM SNAP-ON (ITS GETTING DEL ON MONDAY). DOES ANYBODY KNOW 1ST'LY WOT COST IS INVOLVED IN THIS TOOL AND HAS ANYBODY HAD THIS PROBLEM OR ANYTHING SIMILAR.

MY BRAVO IS A 1400 12V AND ITS A '98 MODEL WITH 40 THOUSAND MILES.

ive had this problem on a number of my fiats..ive had 2 bravo's (a P-reg and an S-reg) and both have had problems with the cylinder head. Fiat have told me on a few occasions that they have had numerous problems with the 1.4 engines in the bravo/brava range (although curiously not in the punto range that use the same engine!!). My advice is to take the car to a respectable garage and ask them to sort itmout for you. This won't be cheap but its better than attempting it yourself! Otherwise, fill the engine with very thick oil and drive it to your nearest garage to trade it in..
