General check strap

Hi there

i was looking for a little bit of help.

i have a grande punto 52 plate and the near side door just swings open once i have opened the door. one day it got caught in the wind and i heard something break now the door just swings open once open.

I think the check strap ( i think that is what you call it) is broken is it a case of just unscrewing it and replacing it. if so does any one know where i can buy one in the uk.

It is a pain when i am parked next to anything else as i have to keep hold of the door to stop it hitting anyone elses car.

Hi, yes it is called a door check strap,could probably get one from scrappers but see my post here! if your car is a 52 reg it's a MK2 Punto not a Grande Punto saves confusion at dealers.https://www.fiatforum.com/punto/241705-noisy-door-opening.html

just checked the wifes car it is a 53 plate punto active does that still make it a mk2.

how easy is it to fit a check strap on this car do i need to take the door skin off or can i replace it without doing that

Hi,if the car has the narrow style headlights it's a MK2 if it's got the more modern type then it's the MK2b.I believe it's the same removal process,i.e remove speaker cover & speaker.
