Although just curious how you got a different explanation to that code compared to the explanation kwik fit got. Does it depend on the machine used to connect upto the car computer.

Just took the car out for the first time today and it had no turbo. Pulled over after a few minutes, turned off and then back on and had full power!

Had a look under the bonnet and saw a variety of pipes. I dont suppose anyone could point me in the direction of the turbo so I can work back from there checking the pipes. Is it around the actual engine?

The codes are quite open to some debate in their meanings, Kwik fit may have a different definition to the one I have.

The pipe is unlikely to be split, as you would hear a massive rush of air, like a loud hiss every time the turbo spooled up. This is because some of the boost pressure would be lost through the hole, a problem that is not likely rectified by a simple switch on and off again.

FYI, the turbo is at the front of the engine, in the picture below:

Edit: To add to that, the MAP sensor is in the intake manifold (no 6 on the diagram)

Im guessing its the part labeled SGR 10252 in the picture?

I had a feeling it might not be the pipe, as if it had a leak im guessing the problem would be permenant, rather then intermittent.

At the moment theres no additional noises or anything else when started.

I know the best option would be to take it straight to Fiat, but finances at the moment are a little bit strecthed! Im also a bit dubious about local garages - You see so many reports where they say the problem is something more expensive then what it is. I wanted to try a few things before taking it to a garage.


Iver ordered the PC kit to hook the car upto my laptop (which is also away for repair!) and hopefully see what that comes back with.

You metion the MAP sensor in a previous post, is that something which would just need replacing, or would a clean (I know a few people say clean sensors first) be an option?

Correct, turbo is SGR10252 (y)

PC kit will probably just give you the same trouble code again, but might be wise to double check it anyway. Does the "Check Engine" stay on after you restart the engine?

MAP sensor is a replacement only job I think, but this is stabbing in the dark. The Fiat part number for this sensor is 55206797, but is quite pricey so I wouldnt go around changing it without being certain that is the cause. Maybe you could disconnect the wiring from the sensor, and see if the fault is constant? Im not sure how accessable the wiring is though.

Took it down to a local garage on Friday as still waiting for my laptop to come back from repair.

They hooked it up and it had the same error and also one regarding the map sensor.He turned them off, took it for a test drive and they didnt come back on and the car ran fine.

He thinks it might be the valve sticking which I was quoted £130. (£99 part and £30 labour).

Drove the car away and it came back on, so got it booked in tomorrow for them to replace the part. Fingers crossed that does the trick!

One more question, does anyone know where I can get a replacement mirror? Some vandal must have booted it off. The casing it ok, just the actual wingmirror is cracked.

Also! Is it a single or twin cam on the 1.3 mjet 90bhp?

Any idea about the cambelt on this GP?
 
Just phoned up the local garage to make sure it was still booked in for tomorrow and I asked about the cambelt.

He looked on his system and it says the GP 1.3JTD has a chain instead of a belt? Just wondering if that is correct.
 
Just picked the car up from the local garage (they left it outside as ive just finished work) after having the turbo boost sensor replaced.

Drove down the road and the check engine light came back on. The car was faster, but still seemed a little sluggish. Popped home to drop my stuff off and then within 5 minutes went back out to give it another run and the car was absoloutly fine.

Going to try it again in the morning from cold, but looks like I might have just wasted £135 :(
 
Took it back tot he garage yesterday and they said it was the same error. They reset it and said if it comes back on they would have to look at replacing the turbo which would cost £600!

Got back down the road again and the light came on.

We had booked a trip to France yesterday evening, so took the car. Came off the ferry and had no turbo, so turned engine off and then on and it was back. A little while later after we got back in the car the light had actually gone off and had no problems at all!!

Tried the car again this morning and no turbo and the light came back on, until I turned off and restarted and then had the turbo back.

Weve got it booked in with Fiat to have a look on Tuesday, but judging by the symptons, could it really be the turbo that has gone? When the cars working with the turbo, it runs as normal.

The error still relates to the turbo boost sensor which has been replaced, so quite puzzling.

Any ideas at all?

Also, If Fiat say its not the turbo boost sensor, what would be the chances of getting a refund on it from the local garage? Dont mind paying the labour, but £100 for a part that wasnt needed seems such a huge waste!
 
Not likely to be the turbo at fault, it would be constant rather than intermittant. I would consider taking to the dealer, just to get Examiner reports if nothing else. The boost sensor might be taking a lower reading, therefore causing it to error. Couls be as simple as a blocked pipe?
 
I had a feeling it wouldnt be the turbo. Ive learnt the lesson to go direct to fiat next time instead of a local garage!

Phoned the local garage this morning and asked if fiat say its nothing to do with the sensor they replace, could I get a refund minus the labour. He said "We got the part from fiat, you'll have to speak to them" before hanging up!

Looks like I learnt the expensive way!
 
Took it to Fiat today (sods law the light turned off on the way over!).

The hooked it up and said it was the same error as before. Ran a few checks including the wastegate, said he put a pole in to lever it open and closed it case it was seizing and to give them a call should the light come back on.

Went to pay and they said it was free!
 
Hi everyone!

Got the same problem again! Check engine light has come back on with the intermittet turbo.

Been happening the last few days, the light coming on and then going off.

Hooked car upto laptop, however its now showing any error codes despite the check engine light being on.

Can anyone point me in the direction of the wastegate on the 1.3 90bhp so I can check to make sure its not getting stuck like before?
 
Have you had the egr valve checked - common problem on the 1.9. Does sound more electrical than mechanical if it has run all this time since your last post.

How did you connect to a laptop - was that at fiat?
