You'll do well to get a new diesel at anywhere near £5k.
Fiatsupsaver are usually a good bet, currently £5998. But they often seem to have special offers on Pandas, most recently £5895.
Nearly new ones seem like hens teeth. When I was looking 3m ago I could'nt find a single used one being advertised at below the price I could buy new, although with no trade in, I expect I could have haggled a bit.
Anyhow I wish you the best of luck. I reckon that at £6k this is probably the new car with the lowest overall running cost over 3yrs/36000m in the UK. ('What Car' reckons its a Toyota Aygo, but they did'nt allow for the substantially higher discounts available on a Panda!)

you thinking of getting one Rob, Hs friend wants me look at helping her get a new car and i have said we will look at a new panda - not that am biased

Under £6k for a brand new panda diesel is incredible.
I have a 2001 Punto mk2 that has done about 68k. If it develops any major faults then I think I'll get rid and get a new Panda diesel. The only thing stopping me doing it now is I don't know if I'll be in the country for longer than a year or two... so not really worth changing cars.

Not me.. I need a bigger car than a Panda! It's Sarah's granddad. He used to have a Tempra 1.9TD, sold that for a 1.5td corsa :yuck: , got rid of that for a JTD punto and is now interested in getting a multijet Panda. It's Sarah's dad who would be doing most of the checking and test drive. Basically he's just going to say yes or no to his dad..
Assuming Sarah's grandad is a "slightly older" person, then the things you minght want to know are:

- It's easy to get in and out of, being a bit higher
- All the controls (pedals and gearstick) are really light and easy to use
- The steering is pretty light normally, and in City mode it's really light.
- They look best with stripes!
