Hi everyone,

I'm 18 and I have a 2002 Seicento Sporting MPI, its my first car and I got it about 3 weeks ago. I love it!! :D
At the moment its completely standard. I have had a search around the forums but haven't found anything definitive about whats good/bad/cheap/expensive.
I originally wanted a K&N 57i kit I saw on eBay however after a quick read on here its proven to not be worth it. I'm also considering lowering the car with APEX 30mm springs. As you can imagine I have a very limited budget especially because of the insurance prices.
I'm just wondering whats the best cheap modifications for my car, even just as something to consider in about a year when the insurance is lower?

a good placed k&n can give you a bit more bhp but not much but will make it sound good if you whant to see how much better it will be take your air pipe of the air box and drive down the road not far though becuse the air will be un filtered and could suck **** in to the the engine i have a k&n and i think its better ive had k&ns on most my cars and theyve made them better but its all about place ment eg where thers cold air feed

The K & N for the MPI is rubbish. The Focus kit (so called 'cos that's what it's really for!) is better.

But really, you'll barely notice the difference. For less than £100, there's faff all you can do with an MPI Sei, except spend the money on tools and a full service -- oiland air filters, oil change, change the coolant, brake fluid, check and reset the valve clearances.

Wait a year, then, look at the tuning section in the guides. I'd start with suspension, wheels, tyres and brakes, then put a bigger engine in. Doing that right will cost you the best part of £1000.

Cheap? No way!

In boring fart mode I agree with fingers, at this stage a full service and investing in decent tools will do you wonders, plus it doesn't screw your insurance and (IMO) will make you more likely to look after the car if you've put in the effort to keep it running sweet.

By all means, buy the odd few performance enhancers but just remember it's money down the toilet unless you intend to keep the car.

Welcome to the forum btw :)

I do agree with you eklipze, so I shall rephrase my question, what is the best budget air filter for the 1.1 mpi that will not reduce power and will sound good?
Other than an air filter I will keep the rest of the car standard at least for the next year, I will just concentrate on trying to get the red colour in the paint back :p

maybe i need to rephrase that too! changin to itg filter has gave my car a nice note, but the reason i bought it is that it lets 99% of air through the filter, which in itself u should see gains compared to a focus induction kit which is just all noise!

I'm running a saxo/106 carbon induction, full decat system with a sportex backbox.

Have an MPI cinq.... But it also has 16valves.... Should of mentioned that 1st....

Welcome!!!

Hi SmokyChento, do you mean the direct replacement itg pro filter like on camskills website?

I cant post a link since I havent had enough posts :(

Adding that would be perfect for me since its cheap enough (£30) and wont affect the insurance since its a replacement.

yes, as said the standard air intake setup is quite good already and you should see some benefits from less restrictive filter, mine sounds nice but i have an spi, and a novitec airbox, 4-2-1, 866 cam, 38mm throttlebody and chipped ecu, my mate tried the itg against his k&n and its defo less restrictive

Out of interest where did you get your ecu chipped, how much was it and did you get a noticeable gain? The only place I've looked so far is angel tuning but its about £200 :O

my cars not on the road yet so much to doo. so not sure on gains, i bought my chip for £12 off gazza but its only for an spi sei!

Do you want a quick car or a quick cento?
That is the question i shall keep asking.

I had a toyosport induction kit on my 1108 engine, commonly called a focus induction kit (similar design to aftermarket induction kit that is available for mk1 focus'). It depends what you really want to do and whats your budget.

There is a cento specific kit available from:
http://www.toyosports.co.uk/
Thought no longer listed on their webite but is still on their ebay page. Maybe email toyosports to ask and see if you can get a cheaper price.

Couple of links for induction kit chat:

An even cheaper option would be to get an aftermarket panel filter (such as K&N), dont need delcaring and is 'better' than the standard filter. Drill the airbox as well if you so wanted to help airflow, simple and cheap enough to do yourself.

This is a good link to start with some basic ideas, though a little dated now.
Keeping to the 1108 engine, then i would suggest an 899 cam. This was a hotter cam available from the P75 and a few P60 engines. It's generally reguarded as a hotter cam for the 1108 engine.
An exhaust system is a good upgrade and can be done on a budget.
A backbox can be a basic mod (i do have a supersprint backbox and a full system for sale), most people dont want to buy a Supersprint manifold for the engine, due to cost.
Also a common mod for the 1108 engine is an inlet manifold from an Uno, as it has a better flow rate i believe. See Nosher's thread on Bella as he had one.

Suspension wise, i wouldnt use the Apex kits, i have a set on my Sei and you get what you pay for. The ride is harsh and crappy. Just dont have the budget at the moment to buy something better.

Engine swap wise (if you want to go down that route), 1.2 8v engines are old hat these days, though very cheap. Its probably worth doing a 16v swap. Again this can be quite expensive and it comes back to the question; do you want a quick car or a quick cento?

All of this boils down to insurance costs though. So in my opinion, as has already been said, a decent service and buy some tools.
Keep reading and learning. Use the search function as most members wont reply to these types of threads, they get asked rather often and all of the answers to your questions are already here.
It's easy enough to work on these cars, follow the guides ask questions when you get stuck.
