O.k. with everyone's help I was able to get a handle on what my motor and transmission are.

Now I would just like to know if there is a sure fire way to confirm right off what model Fiat 500 I do have? I know it might sound dumb on the surface but as everyone knows, some parts are very model specific.

Since I am planning on stripping the car down for an entire paint I am looking at the wiring kits (among other things) from Mr. fiat. I would just like to know once and for all exactly what my 500 is. It is claimed to be a 500f. How do I confirm this %100.

Thanks and sorry if this sounds stupid:eek:

I don't know the answer, but you may find something to confirm what it is in this Fiat 500 data book. Probably easier if you can read Italian but not essential. ;)

It is pretty simple- 500 'F' started production in 1965- chassis number will start with 110F and doors have hinges at front and open normally (not suicide type)
500L is mechanically the same as 500F but has different (rectangular) instrument cluster with fuel gauge and 'ribbed' vinyl trim
500R is the final series with 594cc 126 engine, basic interior trim, Round 500F style instruments and full steel wheels (no hubcaps)
Nuova 500 and 500D all have "suicide" doors and bolt on rear roof section on 500D- most panels are totally different unlike F/L/R which are mostly interchangeable. Pre "F" cars have much weaker mechanicals and coil spring clutch.
Hope this helps!
Hope

Thanks guys!

Damon, looks like I do have an F since my vin starts with 110F096XXXX.
I appreciate your input(y)

Davren, I also greatly appreciate the PDF. Any technical information I have not come across yet is still highly educational and entertaining! (even if I can't read it)

Thanks again!!:p

As Damonn says the L is mechanically the same as the F, here's a 500L user maintainance book. It's in Italian again but I guess you're fluent in that now having read the data book. (y) If not, there's some nice pretty pictures in it to look at. ;)

I've fallen in love with these little cars so anything I can read, I'd enjoy.
