Panda (Classic) Charmanda(er) The Panda

Introduction

Name Change! Previously known as Charmania for anyone not in the know, she's had a slight rename, keeping the Char but sticking my favourite childhood Pokemon name in there, Charmander, mainly because the first time I ever encountered a Panda I was about 8 years old and Pokemon was my favourite thing in the whole world.

Some details,
1992 Fiat Panda 750 Mania
769cc FIRE engine.
Lowered 40mm.
Seicento Sporting Front Seats
Side Stripes for faster acceleration
Fiat 127 'Palio' Alloys.
Veglia Rev counter, so I can count my revs.

I washed her, wanted to take her somewhere nice for pictures but it hasn't been sunny for long enough to do that, so I'll get nicer pictures at some point....
Here she is now, Charmanda.

Sorry for the terrible lighting. Can't do much about the sun.
Yes they will fit but before you do think of the safety of you and others around you!

I'd avoid, if you want not so bright headlights stick to the OEM 40/46 watt tunstung units they came with from factory (y)
I want yellow because its yellow not because it isn't bright. If I could get bright yellow lights I would but they don't exist.

Really? You sure its not just been disconnected at some point

It was the first thing I noticed, when I lifted up the bonnet. I presumed it was because she was such an early Mk2 (with slight Mk1-ist tendencies, and silly dribble channels on the tailgate...).

Think dim-dip came in late 80's, '86 might not have had it.

This is what that wise young man, VmanC, also told me -- and there's no obvious indication that it's been ripped out.... :chin:

Some googling reveals my initial suspicions, it wasn't a requirement in the UK until April 1987, so only Panda's registered after this date will have it presumably, much in the same way that only Panda's registered '93 on have CAT's

Nice to see that uni education is working a treat...(y)

She's been washed! (y)
No idea how she looks as it was dark by the time I finished
Think exhaust has a hole somewhere, possibly downpipe/manifold, she doesn't stall if I cover the exhaust with my hand but can't really hear anything hissing.

Engine has been degreased but was scared to hose under the engine too much incase I damaged those fragile Italian electronics so its not exactly shiney but should at least be able to confirm if oil leak is present on her next run.

Assuming the manifold isn't cracked then it should be, might be worth tightening the retaining bolts in case they're loose?
The smoke (when running on choke you can see slightly white smoke) comes from the join between, could try and tighten the bolts I guess. Hope it isn't cracked manifold :(

Not worried about exhaust leak that much as its so minor, only can really see the gasses escaping if I block the exhaust. More concerned about the oil leak...

I'd ignore them both, will be like our origional 750L then :ROFLMAO: (although she's no back box fitted atm.

The problem with the exhaust join is that the bolts get mega rusted and brittle. You sometimes end up snapping them if you can get the bolts/nuts to move at all. If they are newish bolts though see if you can loosen them slightly, squeeze a bit of exhaust paste around the join and tighten the up again. A quick fix but it won't last forever if you use your car every day. The gaskets for that joint are still available to buy from most good parts suppliers :)

As Andy says they are bound to break as soon as you touch them so if you are going to tackle it, make sure you don't need the car anytime soon as it could easily turn into a bigger job. I wouldn't panic too much about the oil leak, it looks much worse than it is, you will be loosing hardly any oil at all. Rocker cover gasket is a half hour job to do anyway(y)
