I went out to the car today to find the little red battery light on.
Its bever been on before (whilst driving) and so presume i have a charging problem.

Where abouts is the alternator situated on the engine? Its a 1.9TD. and what is the easiest was to find out if its producing a charge without a multimeter as mine is broke? (i may call into kwik fit as they do battery tests)

Cheers all

Altenator is down the bottom of the drivers hand side.. Its a pig to get out so worth testing your battery first - maybe even worth buying a new battery its such an awkward job! Not sure if a drop test works on a diesel battery as they are so much bigger than a petrol battery.

Take out the powersteering pump and its support brackets and dive down. You can't get the altenator out the bottom due to the turbo and the driveshaft or out the side due to the inner arch. To replace the pickups is a 2 minute job once its out of there though!
