I have a 2002 1.6 Multipla. I would like to change the oil amongst other things as my service light has come up. I usually follow a haynes manual. I downloaded the DTE manual but it conveniently misses out the part to change the oil.
Does anyone have a sequence they follow. I am looking for a simple approach like ; remove sump plug; drain oil; remove filter; replace ; refill.

My issue is I am not sure what spanner the oil plug takes, where it is, anything I have to watch out for.... Type of Oil to use - do I need to replace the plug etc.... Is it easy just messy:)

Thanks

hi andybeevers,
you will need a 13mm allen key for the sump plug...you can get a 13mm allen key attachment for your ratchet from Halfords etc. I ended up borrowing one from a friendly garage. the oil you will need is 10w-40 or better (5w-40). oil filter is easily accessible from under the car (front side of engine). one thing to look out for is when refilling the oil, be careful to do it slowly as the filler tube can easily 'back up' and overflow....messy...
as for the plugs.. they are not expensive so might as well..you will need a long spark plug tool to reach inside the cylinder head/tappet cover. again these can be bought from halfords etc.
if you are doing all this might as well replace the air filter while you are at it (y)
one thing i dont know is how to reset the service indicator...if you search this forum i'm sure you'll find the procedure for that.
btw your own sequence is spot on

oops.. i see you meant the sump plug not the spark plugs...oh well. if I remember correctly the plug is tapered type so no new washer is needed, just check the plug it self for condition.
cheers.

Thanks, that's great advice - will pop down to Halfords. Any advice on changing the oil filter?

Best regards

errm the only advice for the oil filter is use a belt drive to get it off, and oil the new threads before screwing back on

Well , I have been to halfords, got an oil filter and changed it. Now I have another problem....

Under medium revs it is leaking oil from above the filter but not directly. It looks like a switch/gauge that enters the block. Any body know what this might be? And can I tighten it or does it have to be replaced?

Thanks
Andy B

Shaun1,
I looked in the technical manual and it is the oil pressure switch. It is basically pushed into a holder which is screwed into the block. The switch is leaking and I guess needs replacing. This I guess is why the low pressure light comes on at low revs which I thought might be a blocked filter as it needed replacing anyway.

So off to Fiat for a new one...

Thanks
Andy B
