Recently I have had to change my auxilary belt, quite an easy job. Here's how.
Buy the correct size belt, motor factors will probably supply you with the 'right' belt being 1830mm in length, this does fit but is very tight, Fiat eper lists the belt length as 1836mm, so ask your local motor factor for a belt between 1836 and 1842, I got one at 1838 for about £13 or go to the dealer and pay £35-£40.
Firstly jack up the car or put it on ramps. Remove the plastic pulley cover from underneath, its held on with 3, 10mm bolts and a plastic trim clip.
This will expose all the lower pulleys.
Make a sketch of the belt route around the pulleys.
In the centre of the auto tensioner(small black wheel) is a nut. Use a socket and long wrench on this, turning anti clockwise towards the front of the car,it will turn at least a quarter of a turn.
This will release the tension on the belt, remove it.
Whilst it is off check the pulleys for wear, It is wise to replace the tensioner(easy job £25) a single bolt holds it on, and also the plastic jockey wheel(easy,£10).Sadly on mine there is play in the alternator bearings causing a turbo whirring sort of noise.Sorted now,I will do another post on it.
Anyway, thread the new belt around the pulleys, use the socket wrench to release the tension on the tensioner and slip the belt back on completely, check it is on all wheels properly.Replace cover, job done. Once you have done it once its easy a second time.
