Last week my headgasket went so i had it skimmed and a new gasket fitted and the car was running good but i found a water leak - the pump had gone so i went and bought a new one (and an alternater belt)..

fitted the pump fine put the cam belt back on following a guide on here but the car will not start (i have taken it off and re-fitted several times just to make sure but it will still not start)

any ideas?

Hi

If

- you can hear the petrol pump running for 2 seconds (or so) after you switch on the ignition.

- and when you remove a plug lead and conect it to a plug loose on top of the cam shaft cover there is no spark when you crank the engine, to start.

You have probably disturbed the wiring to the TDC sensor - the crank angle sensor, try a gently wobble, if that works you need a new TDC sensor, if it does not work I'd be tempted anyway, - to replace the sensor.

thanks for the replies the TDC sensor is secure and doesnt move if thats what you mean?

and rallycinq i dont know what you mean, explain please

thanks

If you don't have a spark but can hear the pump, replace the sensor. they are pretty fragile in my experience or I'm clumsy.

what works, and what doesn't?

rallycinq was talking about the outer pulley, the one that has to come off for the cam belt to be done. it has to go on a certain way, but will fit in three posistions. To locate it properly, there is a small nipple and dimple on the crank pulley. Did you make sure that was alligned properly before fitting it?

Get it wrong and the car won't work.

THe bottom outer pulley is held on with three bolts all at 120 degrees from each other.

Therefore it can be put on in one of three different positions.

Only one of these positions is correct and you identify this position by looking for the tiny hole in the outer pulley and making sure it matches up with the nipple on the inner belt pulley.

Cheers
