Well, as clarkson put it, You own a Two Seater, Tubocharged Mid engined Rear wheel Drive Mercedes Benz Roadster. Say that to the ladies down the pub :slayer:
Supposed to feel like the old classic British roadsters like the MG midget (only much better naturally!) and you will get that all important "Wooosh" every gear change  Just don't try racing any 20vts :D

Nah I am with arc on this, driving it at high revs with bike engines would be cool on the track but as an everyday driver it would be awful. COnstant stop/starts would be impossible etc.

yes - key words *high revs*

Stops starts are not a problem with bike engines. Like ive said, they are common powerplants for a lot of kits cars because they are very light but powerfull, but also economical and easily used everyday.

i'm speaking from what ive been told by smartsrus..

Don't do it!!!

I love and hate the bike engined car by equal measure.

it eats clutches and... engines... and you need ear plugs to stop your ears from bleeding after anything but the briefest of drives.

The gearchange is electronic and the clutch, though excellent is pretty redundant once you get moving. Reverse is electric although I've burnt out one motor already.

I've done 3000 miles in it and on a summers day with the roof off it is peerless for pleasure providing there is no traffic around (or police as the exaggerated superike soundtrack kinda attracts attention). It does 30-60 mph in 2.7 seconds (50mph in 1st with current gearing) but get stuck in traffic and it is such a pain as you constantly slip the clutch.

If you've got money to burn and want it as a brutal, noisy toy then go for it because the looks on the faces of tuned exotica (up to 120mph anyway) are a sight to behold as you give the best of them a run for their money.

If you want a daily driver then come and see the reality of 'The Beast' sat in a corner of our forecourt unloved and unused (crap heater etc). However the shortest day has passed us by and therefore we are edging back towards Summer... and more redfaced GTI drivers...

All the problems arise from sticking in something that shouldnt be there, thats far out from what the chassis and cars designed to have :D

Sticking to my guns about bike engines in cars, but then the kitcars are designed for those powerplants and have co-ordinating parts to counteract the problems outlined with the smart.

the fortwos are electronically limited to 84, i didnt think the toasters were too

oh well, get a sw-exclusive remap on there and it wont matter. 115bhp, and no speed cap
