Ha...typical...

Fixed one gremlin & another has appeared...

2003 Multipla...we bought it knowing the central locking did not work via the remore...but it worked ok by inserting the key into passenger or driver door.

But all of a sudden its started periodically immediately unlocking itself...I lock it...the locks pop up again...not every time but pretty frequent???

Went out just now & inserted key into drivers door to lock it...and only the drivers door locked???

All the doors seem properly closed & cant think of anything else...

Any ideas on this folks???

I don't have much of an idea, but ours does it too - or at least it does similar.

If you unlock it from the drivers door it normally only unlocks that door. However if you lock it again, then unlock it and hold the key in the unlock position for a second or two it normally (but not always) opens all the doors.

The immediate unlocking is normally because a door isn't shut properly - we had that when the handle on the passenger side got a bit sticky - try squirting WD40 in the mechanism, it worked for me.

I've also noticed the seatbelts retract really slowly or incompletely on ours when it's cold, so perhaps the belts are getting in the way of the doors closing?

I have a focus that does exactly this...and I know why.

When you lock a door the key does just that...locks the door, but there is a linkage connected to the barrel on each lockable door that detects the key has been turned fully.. This sends a signal to the other solenoids to lock the other doors aswell.

The linkage on my focus drivers door needs to be adjusted as it doesn't quite move far enough to trigger the other doors to lock.
It's like adjusting a handbrake cable if you like.

Sounds like you have same problem.
I normally get out and lock it from passenger side!!

Marty.

Try pushing all the door handles down and see if the problem still occurs, Multipa is right in that when the handle hinge pin gets stiff (which is normally this time of year) the handle can stop the door locking fully and on a bad day will leave the door swinging!
Light grease (I use chain grease as it comes with a handy applicate tube) and a good deal of working the handle to get the grease in, try using a heat gun/hairdryer to keep the grease workable.

I thought I was going mad, sometimes when I return to the car it is unlocked,
I have been making double sure I lock the doors when parking (with the key, I need a new battery for the fob lock)
Every now and then it is unlocked when I return.
Anyone know a fix for this?

Not 100 percent on this check the door locks as the contacts on the locks may not be meeting try holding the black button on the doors that registers as closed and lock it try this on all four and the boot as I say might not work but worth a try

Willdo, I have only just bought the car, I love it, but at the mo' I'm ironing out all the little niggles, (with a lot of help from this forum and a can of WD40)

All these cars really give are silly little niggles that's why I like em so much

sounds like its down to a dodgie central locking mech.had this on a old mk6 escort i used to own. the central locking was built into the bear claw lock............the lock the door itself and there was a plastic part that had broke which jammed the mech making the central locking bounce open when it was locked.bloody annoying :bang:

Mine isn't unlocking immediately, I can lock it, stand and stare at it for 10 mins (people start to look at me) and it stays locked.
When I come back to it an hour later it is unlocked!!
Maybe someone else's fob is unlocking it.
Or I have a poltergeist!

I'll try this guy.
