Technical Central cupholder (rear)

I am installing a coffee machine in my 500L for a long drive. Does anyone know how to prise open the rear part (inc cupholder) of the console around the handbrake? I don't want to damage it and it doesn't respond to squeezing, tugging etc. Or do you have to lift the whole think out (seems unlikely).
