General Cento's v Classic Minis?

I'd be hard pushed to choose, the Mini has more appeal as its a true classic and incredibly rare in that condition; the Cinq would be the more sensible choice though, much more reliable, practical and comfortable. Charlie's got the right idea, having one modern Fiat and one classic car :D

drove past somewhere today on way back from job interview and saw this spraying place, specialises in mini restorations, about 10-15 freshly resprayed mini's sitting outside, all with minilite alloys, some modded some completely standard (but completely restored) absolutely gorgeous and amazing sight.

Thing is Charlies Mini stays nice co s he don't drive it must as daily use would turn the shell to dust whereas the Cinq wouldn't!

Cinq 1 - Mini 0

Admitidly The cinq is my everyday car...And i agree, my mini wouldnt be in the condition its in if i was to use it every day. I have no intention of using it as my daily runner, it comes out merely for shows and dry days. Thanks for the comments on the pics. Grim :)

my point exactly

A mini is a SHOW CAR which means

doesnt get driven hard
doesnt have chance to rust (then again it is a mini)
daily reliability is noticed
comfort isnt noticed

and ill bet it doesnt get taken out in winter cause mini heaters are ****e

That's foiting tawk cowboy !!!!

Owning both a Cinq and Mini's......

I'll challenge you in any roundabout in standard cars and we'll see who comes out first....trust me it wont be Italian.

Both cars have thier pros and cons and it's all a matter of personal preference

Can I just add that most Fiat's are front wheel drive tranverse engine mounted cars....yup ?

And what was the first production front wheel drive transverse engine mounted car ?.......THE Mini !!!! :D

So be thankful because without the Mini setting the standard then you would not have your beloved Fiat's !!!! ;) ;)

P.S. I've got three Mini's and my girlfriend has a Cinq so I'm on the fence !!!! :D

Well i own a 92 Cooper, and i'd say that it would certainly give a cinq a run for its money. If memory serves me correctly i've good a book somewhere with a magazine road test back in early 90's with the mini against the 205 and the cinq. I'll look it out.

Don't know about stats, but my mini has 72,000 miles on it, its not on its original engine (changed before i got the car), its on a low compression metro 1275 block, an SPi cylinder head, and HIF44 carb (all it all should be marginally below standard hp). It felt ok, i stuck on a stage 1 kit (manifold, exhaust, filter = £120) and had the car at a rolling road shoot out and it managed 59.5bhp. Which all said an done didn't seem that good, but it has peak torque of 68lb/ft at 3300rpm and it pulls like a train from 1500rpm all the way to 5500rpm. Can be pushed onto 6-6.5krpm but its not worth it power wise. Top speed was measured at 97mph as i asked the guy rolling roading the car to stop at 5000rpm.

A cinq would probably make a better day to day car, 5 gears, better economy, less rust prone? But the boot is no bigger, there is room in the mini for 5 strapping lads (been there, done that), and with a nice set of Cobra buckets in the front very comfy over a long drive, if a little bouncy.

My Mini is a similar spec...1275....high compression...stage 1 HIF44 etc and that produced 72bhp on the rollers so it's great fun !!!

Driven the girlfriends Cinq but it does not give you as much feel for the road as the Mini !!!

havin not owned a mini but only driven one i would b very hard pushed if i had to decide.

personally i like the look of the cinq better, mini is a bit too, well mini for my liking, but the old cooper does drive very well, proper fun, and i can imagine with a nicly powered engine would b an absolute scream.

however i love drivin the cinq, even if the body roll is a bit excessive at the moment it is still a lot of fun to drive, both great little cars, and i am sure the cinq will follow the mini into classic status in a few years to com!

Sadly you can't fit this sunroof in a Cinq..........

Oooh I'll have to pullt the headlining down and have a look.
I'm braking a British Open at the moment.........might keep the roof for myself and wang it in the Cinq.
