ok this boy has threatened to smash all my windows on my car, i think im going to invest on a cctv camera, so can people explain what i need, eg video recorders etc. cheers.

Cheapest thing to do is hook it up to your house VCR and TV, if you pretty much know when it will happen set timer record and voila. If not, best thing is a kit that has a PIR sensor aswell, this way it should only record when there is movement.
You can get very good and very bad for your money, for instances, I have a friend who bought a black and white one for £45 a few years ago and it was really poor, I bought my grandpa one from Makro about 2 years ago for £25, fulll colour, microphone etc. He has it as an access system I designed for him plugged into a 6" screen and long play video with date stamp. Any problems he knows to immediately hit record, set off his alarm and phone the police. THough obviously it can't record over and over as a long play video doesn't last long enough.

Our camera is a B+Q one I think cost about £10 ish.
Chose a suitable location to mount it - Prob. better off mounting it behind glass (indoors). Can go into a VHS recorder, PC TV input card for capture.
Our one uses 4 core telephone cable with a SCART plug on the end. I will ask him how he has his wired to his PC. He can remotely power up his PC and view our back yard via IE.
He has a link to his live camera page for members of his network community. It was well cool checking our back yard from any PC with web access over a secure page.
Then again, It could work out cheaper to use a USB web cam with a long lead – depends if you have an old PC you could dedicate to video capture. Perhaps a Pentium 2 would do – and there are loads of them knocking around cheep as chips (Ah Luke
) you may get away with fitting a bigger hard drive…

A cheaper one will do the same - Not sure if they all come with programs you can set the frame rate and screen rez. However, it mamy not solve you overall problem. Hopefully U get £30 change of your £40 LOL BTB I'd shop around on the web - I don't knot if these guys are best price, but everyone I know in Mcr use them as no P+P. Dam, I just remembered, do you have ample lighting outside, you may need some low power florescent lighting on an intruder sensor Don’t bother with High power Halogen lamps, as it will cost a fortune to run – and waist energy. We don’t see much on ours till something triggers the light.
whatever its got, make sure its got night vision and GOOD night vision
i have my webcam set up for motion detection, have got a halogen light on the drive to provide me with lighting if needed
as for the rest of the cctv covering the house, we got a very good set from b&q which connects to a seperate tv monitor, which then can either be connected to a computer (tv input) or video recorder
with the monitor the system was about £60, but the cameras can be brought for as little as £20 which plug striaght into scart channel
the house enterances are now fully covered by cctv, 5 cameras, 2 monitors in total and less than £200 for a decent system
expect to pay to pay anything between £20-£50 for a camera that plugs direct into telly

is there any point to CCTV tho, has anyone ever handed in evidence from one to the police and had them actually do anything?
I can only see it helping as a deterrant, and if you're going for that angle then a big camera (fake) with a red LED on it should the trick.
