LOL, i remember that being the slowest car in my friends What Car magazine - it was all we had to read on a 7 hour coach trip once! I do remember however it being 29.3 seconds, maybe one our resources is wrong but it still awful LOL

My first signiture (a lot of thought put into it): If you can't find the switch to switch your fogs off I am sure I can help you! Damn fogs.

I think we all need to take a step back and think about the fact the 899cc wasn't built to provide performance. It's there as a little city car that will be easy on the wallet. And also, it's all well and good being able to beat people off the line in it but you don't have a rev counter in those things, it WILL knack you engine in good and proper!! I didn't have mine for it's performance, I had mine because it was a Cinq[8D]

LOL, well I saw one beat an old lady in her electric wheelchair once but she was loading her shopping at the time.

In all seriousness, ladinnotts has the right viewpoint, owning acinq isn't about its raw power, it hasn't any, but about owning a cinq. A cinq is unlikely to beat pretty much most cars on the road. Surfin fella is correct in saying that if you do manage to beat anything, i.e. even a 1.25 fiesta, you are going to be forcing your engine so hard (and they have to take it easy) that the real long term laugh will be on you because your engine isn't going to like it one bit!

In all seriousness, a 899 cinq hasn't even much of a chance against my pittiful 1.0 litre Uno, why? I have an extra 5 HP and not any extra weight. My car is one of the slowest on the road and it makes the 899 even slower.

Remember, owning a cinq is about owning a cinq, not about owning a sports car; it isn't one.

There's a lot of silly talk in this thread about 899cc Cinqs beating all sorts of cars. The 899cc Cinq is not a quick car. Don't fool yourself into thinking that it is.

ChrisLusty - no-one stands up more for Fiats then me, but that Focus driver wasn't trying. He was probably having a bloody good laugh at you. Your Cinq is a town car, designed for carrying shopping. I have a 1.1 Uno, and it's light and nippy, but it isn't a race car and it won't beat a Focus. But it is quicker than your Cinq, I know that because I had a 899cc Cinq. My 1.6 Brava isn't that quick either for that matter. You have to know the limitations of your car and drive it within those limitations. If you keep blasting the 899cc engine everywhere you'll have a dead Cinq on your hands very very soon. The engine can't take that sort of abuse and in the meantime you're making yourself look very silly.

If you want to challenge Novas/Saxos/Polos etc then save up and get a Cinq Sporting, even then you'll need to stick to 1.0 and 1.2 cars. Forget about the Focus though...

Ok the focus did try after i got to 20ish before him as he changed gear early then when i was at 45 in 5th he went scremaing past with not a happy look on his face. I dont race all the time but i do try to give a good fight of the mark, after 25/30mph the race is over as the other car is too far in front and the cinq lacking in power. im not talking bull when i say my cinq can beat the 1.0 and 1.2 (old 1.2) novas etc because I have done it. I think it all depends on the driver in the other car and how quick he/she is off the mark and how good their clutch controll is.

I think that you lot should get together and see how fast the 899 is, you need to get a good 899 though, I suggest you buy mine! to test it, lol.:D

if you see a doblo or Kangoo 1.9d go for it!

Met Cognac 99 Brava 100 HSX, what do you want? cupholders? open door warning light? grow up!

haha, so far on the list of things it can actually out run:

I keep my car fiat serviced, and upgrade any parts i can, so it can take the strain put on the engine, unless u r gonna do that its silly, coz she'll blow!!! However, no trouble having a good thrash once or twice a journey even in an 899, but my sporting is so good to blast around i can't help but keep her away from 5K rpm!! [8D]
