Re: Untitled

Mullucks m8 ;)

600w is probably the peak rating, 300w is probably the RMS rating...

If you have a 300w psu in your PC, you need a 300w inverter, simple as that. So that inverter should be ok, but i am sure they are cheaper at maplins...

The infamous link...

I have a carputer, a pic can be found here http://www.daz155hgt.co.uk/Pics/car.htm you can bug me on msn whenever i am online, but late for tonight, but i'm sure i will be online sometime tomorrow evening... ([email protected])

Lots of good info and software can be found here http://www.mp3car.com

Re: Untitled

The rating of a PC PSU is usually its output power, ie the power required is more than the output power.

Avoid square wave inverters like the plague, you'll get noise through your audio. Go for pure sine wave only, more expensive but work a lot better.

Re: Untitled

I have an el cheapo 300w inverter from maplins, i used to get a little noise on booting, but as soon as the Windows logo appeared the interference goes...

This was easily sorted by grounding the chassis/motherboard.

If you are looking at a 600w true sinewave inverter, of course they are much better, but having seen the prices, they are very expensive.

600w true signwave inverter on maplins is £299!

Not sure if this is correct, but i got told on MP3Car.com that the external USB soundcard i am using seems to get rid of alot of interfence...

Re: Untitled

Yup, a USB sound dongle will sort out alot of the noise.

We have a true sine inverter at work and it wasn't that expensive, about £50 or so.

Re: Untitled

£50? how powerful was it?

On my new PC i have a 500w PSU, so i was going to get a 600w square wave as the true sinewave's are so expensive, if you can suggest a 600w true signwave for

Re: Untitled

might be 400W but I think its bigger, I'll eye it up tomorrow.

Its deffo true sine as we had it on a scope :)

It might have come from Makro though.

Re: Untitled

It'll be ok if it came from Makro as there is one near me...

Are you sure the ones on the link are modified sinewave? (as thats the one i have)

Re: Untitled

I got the cheap £20 300watts Inveter from Maplin today, works perfectly fine

AMD 1700
512 memory
40gig x 2
geforce2

and a 15" tft monitor (jus for testing)

The inverter runs all of these with no problems at all.

Re: Untitled

Have you got speakers on the pc, if so, are you getting any noise?

Daz

Re: Untitled

no speakers yet, think ill be getting a usb soundcard .

Re: Untitled

OK tommrow im going to start hiding the wires.

Is it worth rapping all the wires in insualtion tape? or any other type of tape? also, whats the best route to wire from the boot to the front?

thanks in adv

Re: Untitled

just remember to keep the power wires away from the phonos to reduce the chance of noise,
you can tape some together to make a tidyier (i know its not seen but) and easier install
only my 0.02 tho!

Re: Untitled

Its actually a myth about keeping the RCAs away from the power wires. :)

Re: Untitled
