Im asking because i want to do it too...
I followed what was in the forum.
It worked. We get android auto. Don't have carplay due to not having the 2019 USB.
Our proxi alignment ended up being a mess.
The obdII adapter we used to do it didn't like the fact we were in the sun. Failed multiple times. We gave up after a while and it caused issues with my transmission. It would stay it 1st gear and not change drive modes.
After doing it in the garage, it worked fine.
I have android auto now. It all works great. I am going to try a wireless carplay adapter to see if that will work.
If not, I just use my Android phone.

I had a 500x from 2016 and I have installed the uconnect 7 with has been produced in 2021.
Everyhting else works except the android auto.
Exactly the usb ports are not working
If someone can help me out it would be so nice because this was the reason why i have changed the uconnect 5 to this one.
The proxy is good, the odometer is not flashing, gps, steering control, etc. Everything else is working. Just usb is not OK.
The icon of it is grey, like it is inactive, but it can charge the phone.

My first guess would have been not plugged in the back, but then I remember we had to change some numbers in the proxy alignment to get android auto working.
I think it was mentioned in this thread or another. You have to turn on BOTH carplay and android auto. I will search for the threads.
We did this...
I recently did the same procedure and CarPlay is working. First extended the proxi length to 235 bytes and modified the following bytes as written:
Byte 148= 05 Uconnect 7
Byte 157= 01 CarPlay
Byte 160= 01 Android Auto
This was above. I had to do this to get it to work.

this is what I exactly did, but it still not working. Now at least I know the USB is working, because I put back the old uconnect 5 and it is working. But after I put back a the uconnect 7 it is not working again, neither with a pendrive.

There is some update.
After connecting with an adapter to the HU everything started to work.
So the problem has to be with the USB socket but it is working with the original uconnect 5 HU.
Is there someone who uses a car from 2016 and retrofitted a 2020 HU or newer?
There has to be a magic byte to make it work.
