General Caribean Orange faded quite badly?? anyone else?

Just noticed (and now cant stop noticing) when i took the number plate off the back of my car that it had totally faded quite badly, easily seeable from 15 feet. It would apear that the whole back of the car (which sits into most of the days sun) has faded , you can quite easily see it when looking for it.

Is this a known issue? nothing came up in a search

Mine is still nice and bright, but I do wash polish and wax it every 2 weeks or so

Could be why the colour was discontinued? Perhaps Fiat knew something. I'm sure a good detail would bring it back to life though?!

Paints fade in the same order as the rainbow : red orange yellow green blue indigo violet.

Red worst - violet best.

Same. Mines still as bright as it always was and ive owned it about 2 and a half years.

It fades like fook! (We are only talking about the "Special solid" Caribbean Orange).

Mine went in for an Insurance job (new N/S front wing) in February and the body shop couldn't match the colour due to the variation in fading (worse on the metal panels than the plastic).

I bet all you orange owners' GP has faded - If you open the doors and look at the shuts you can see the colour it was when it rolled off the production line. A nice deep orange that the sun hasn't bleached. The problem is it's a solid colour (with red in it) which is far more susceptible (than metallics) to sun damage.

Looked like a patchwork quilt after they finished my GPS...

After nearly 6 months of to-ing and fro-ing (and complaining!) they finally gave up trying to match it and resprayed the whole car! Result! It's PROPER orange now! (Been meaning to get some pics up actually!)

Damn, well this is fairly ridiculous, its only a three year old car and the back of it (which sits into the sun) looks totally faded. Is this covered under some sort of paint warranty? because that really shouldnt happen in this day and age.

p.s. I ALWAYS have a good two coats of collinite wax on the car and thats obviously not helped.

Mrs Ffoxys red Stilo has faded big style at the rear too, but thats 6 years old.

Never used to happen so bad with the "old" paints, must be the water based ecological stuff to blame...

yeah its really quite bad, im annoyed with it. Im having to reverse my car up the drive now to get the front to fade and balance it out!! the lengths you have to go to when you buy a fiat

2 choices mate, no point being

1) Dealer, see if they will sort it out for free or on a contribution basis.
2) Pay for a re-spray and dont bother with the wheel spacers, Abarth lights etc... use the money towards the paint correction instead.

is this strange and news to me my mk2 punto is fine and its red...03 plate and no fading what so ever...but not good all the same....

Ill see what the dealer says today, its in for service and MOT today so ill ask when i pick it up. Cant help myself with the spacers been wanting to do it for ages and now the warranty is up all the horses and all the kings men cant hold me back

I can see your point but I wouldn't expect a three year old car (that has been treated well, polished and waxed) would fade that badly after only 3 years. I think thats down to cheap/cheapest paint and then it would lie with Fiat. Ill ask the dealer.

Im just glad its orange and not red, its turning into that Focus ST colour which isnt too bad. I hate to have a red car go pink :yuck:

Strange that, my mate had a 9 year old BMW 5 series and he always serviced it himself, found a spot of rust on the boot lid after 9 years and the Authorised BMW dealer took it in a resprayed the whole back of the car F.O.C!

Mine has always been serviced Full Fiat Service history.
