:idea:hi,

I've been using my Uno for almost 3 years now, and i would like to get a little more performance out of the engine. please advice whether changing the carb would help, and what carb must i look around for. Also, how much does a K&N filter improve performance.

Mine is a 1997 Fiat Uno 999cc FIRE engine. it currently uses a weber carb.

I am not sure where i can source one in India too, so if you guys have a few tips; would really help.

Sharan

i have same engine too, looking if I can fit a bigger card which will maximise engine performance.. any 1??

You cant do anything easy with the carb, there are other cars that use the same carb (32 TLF) but have the same choke diameter, so theres no point swapping them.

Fitting a K&N will only make a tiny difference, mainly in a slightly louder roar when you accelerate.

Personally I took the front (clip on part) of the air filter off completely with the air filter & stretched an old pair of tights (not mine!) over the intake twice, taping it tightly round the edge with insulation tape.

Its now running `easier` & at a lower, smoother idle speed & has a nice throaty roar when I put my foot down! (y)

I think its slightly faster now too, but its hard to tell.

If you live in a dusty area, it might be worth lightly spraying the tights with oil, to trap the finer dust & change it every 6 months.

I intend to run a cold air intake from next to the radiator using 10" ally ducting (maybe putting another layer of tights over the end of that) to lower the intake temperature.

Hi there,
i dont know about FIRE engine. here in indonesia both UNO MK1 and MK2 came with sohc engine derived from fiat 128 (non-FIRE).
the engine respond nicely when fitted with 'better' carb, usually the good old weber carb like DCN type and still maintain good millage.
there is someone here replacing uno mk2 carb with used 131 mirafiori OHV engine carb and said it was a killer! ;)

Mine is MK2, still using its genuine carb, a weber 32/34 TLDE and not think to replace it. Good millage (about 12kpl), good performance, able to reach 140kph with ease and going up till 180.

Oh, almost forgot to tell, many newer car (about similar displacement) cant keep up mine :slayer:

Unfortunately the FIRE engine is completely different & there are no swapable options when it comes to carbs.

I`ve toyed with the idea of getting 2 inlet manifolds, cutting them, rejoining them so the inlets face the front & then using bike carbs.

Another option would be to cut the manifold a couple of inches from the head & then, using a compatible inlet for another car using a slightly bigger carb (something like a 28/32 weber downdraft), plumb it on...

Neither are easy at all & its not something I intend to put into practice anytime soon....
