Hi,

I have a Grande Punto 1.2 Active(petrol)

Have changed the taillight bulbs as one was out. (Still out with new bulb)

I have tried to start the car and all I get is a grinding noise and a beep coming from somewhere in the car.

Any ideas would be gratefully received. Thanks!

hi, :)
the gringing noise is 95% coming from the starter motor.. probably because it's not getting full electrical power:eek:

not uncommon to have the main earth lead fail,

Connect a jump lead from negative battery terminal ( BLACK LEAD) to the engines metalwork , and try to start again,
let us know what you find, ;)

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, when you say engine metalwork...do you mean the chassis..like when jumping another car, or actually the engine.

Sorry if being a bit dense.

Either, should be fine if chassis connect to a bit that's not painted.

If it was fine the last time you started it try putting the car in gear release handbrake & push the car forward & back a little, apply handbrake take out of gear & try to start.

Chassis not great as engine and box are rubber mounted, clamp earth lead onto a decent bit of metal on engine or box.

Hi,

Tried both of the options of using hump lead, and rolling car.

Same as was before. Does that rule anything out?

Thanks

What's the charge state of the battery? has your digital clock in the car reset it's self.

managed to find someone to jump me!

Turns out it was just a flat battery. Probably as I had car door open and boot up when changing tail lights.

Taught me a lesson!!

Thanks for all your help!
