Help

I have had a Fiat Bravo 1.4 sx (1996) for the last two years and had no problems. Its been fine although lately when i have parked up after driving it and then leave it for 1/2 hour to an hour it won't start.

I have to turn the key 5 to 6 times before its up and running again. I have had it into to different garages and they can't find anything wrong with it. They seem to think its running fine which it is once you get it started.

Does anyone out there know what the problem is? Im will be travelling to Ireland in it in a months time so would like to have this resolved once and for all.

Thanks very much guys for the help

Caren xx

trouble shooting hint

Trouble shooting hint
1. Overrich airfuel ratio
-correction for coolant temperature sensor
-Fuel leakage at injector
2.Vapor locks occurs
-fuel pressure decrease after engine stops

steps
1. Replace fuel with another brand
2.check fuel line pressure
-check fuel pressure regulator for blockage or leakage
-check leakage at injector
3. Check wiring harness between engine coolant temperature sensor(ECT) & ECU. Check reading of ECT.
4.check terminal voltage at:
-manifold absolute pressure
-throttle position sensor
-ignition coil
-ECT

Good luck

Ok dude?!!

Caren,
Havin the same trouble but i have just had a service, same thing they cant find anything wrong. they replaced the starting motor seemed fine for a day or so then on sat samething happened twice in a row!

sorry but if i knew i would let ya know.
By the way im in Ireland, going anywhere nice?
But if anyone else can through a spot light on this please do! :)

Caren, i had what sounds like the same problem on my bmw535 (now sold, replaced with hgt). What you need to understand is that when your engine is hot, it heats up your starter motor/solenoid, as temperature rises electrical resistance in connections also rises, this would explain why it won't start when hot.(i bet if you leave it for about another 1/2 an hour it'll start)
First, check main connections on starter/solenoid.
Second, get a new battery. (much better after this)
Third, replace starter relays. (long shot but cheap to do - i was only advised of this after i sold the car)
Fourth, replace starter/solenoid.
Fifth, Stamp your feet, swear and go red in the face.(like i did)
Sixth, sell the ****er (also as i did)
You have my sympathy.

Hi

Alan

Thanks for your reply, i think the only solution is to sell and buy another, its beginning to do my head in.

As for Ireland, im off the Belfast to see friends then travelling down to Galway to see more friends. As you can imgaine a lengthly trip. Where abouts in Ireland are you from?

Thanks again for the advice.

Caren :)

Non starter

Caren

I had a problem about 10 months ago with intermitting starting/non starting it turned out to be a faulty code ECU from the immobiliser. My car was turning over fine but the engine just stopped short of firing up. I took to the dealer and they diagnosed it and sorted it by replacing the code ECU and re-programming they blue keys from the red master key (cost about £175 though).
