Tom, the car he received back was not his car and...
I guess bringing a shell into the UK with or without documents and applying for a registration is acceptable??? as has been pointed out by Hobo... the finished car should not have even been allowed to be registered as such given the evidence that seems to be shown... the shell would have had an ID with an engine number etc etc and would have been registered in Italy as a car... and the leniency of the UK registration process allowed the car to be reconstructed from 2 cars
whilst I do appreciate that the stories are heart warming and very deserving...
It is more of a drama than any sort of Restoration show...
One of the other lots who do up cars to flog.. are also guilty of a similar practice of buying a car to restore and the finished product is sometimes/perhaps/maybe actually a different car (allegedly)...
I believe there is a common practice among unscrupulous car dealers known as "Ringing" where a car may not be the actual car they started out with... and if a normal punter was to do such a thing then I think trading standards and the Police would be involved..
When a car is shown/displayed/advertised as one thing but actually isn't the police seem to jump on such a person and hauled through the courts and they are branded an unscrupulous dealer.. but it seems to be ok for others (for tv or such) to be deemed above such a thing..
The Jolly in the link is not a JOLLY it is not even a 1958 car, yet advertised by someone well known and yet nothing is said...
Boyd Coddington (lets see who watched US progs or understand the old hot rod scene), was I believe convicted for issuing false registration documents for converting rusty heaps into Hot rods as there was so little left of the original cars...
That is my point it seems ok for some people to bend/break the law in the name of TV...
