Driving the Brav this afternoon (1.2 x reg) and noticed it was running really lumpy. Gave it a bit of a blat but it was still really hesitant. Went and watched the United game and set off to drop my dad off. He commented that it seemed like it was getting worse and the bam, on comes the engine management light, down come the revs and I have to pull over.
Since then it's started up ok and drives but if I get past 3500 rpm it kills the revs again. I know it will need a diagnostic but any inclinations from anyone, any obvious stuff to check?

Any help much appreciated

Cheers

i had the same problem with my corsa when the revs dropped it backfired found out it was the coil pack. dont know if that helps could also be the lambda sensor

first checks would be sparks and leads, could be a coil pack/ignition coil, which ever you wanna call it.

other than that im not overly sure

is it lumpy as well? and sluggish?

Just really hesitant and stuff, juddery if that describes it better. I know about leads and plugs, will check those. What does the coil pack consist of and where is it?

Thanks again

EEK!

uhm.. i think its at the back somewhere behind the right side of the engine cover mounted on the back "wall" of the engine bay, well i think it is in mine! (1.2) ive only looked in my bay once!! i know its a single unit, unlike my seicento which is two units..

Cheers Kayley,
A girl who knows cars, if you know your football as well I may have to marry you!

Couldn't get to work this morning, it's all over the place and doesn't feel safe. So, have to get it fixed today. Is it worth running down to my garage or can I check the obvious?

Cheers

Dom

Hi there,

Coil Packs - as far as i knew they are the black things that plug onto your spark plugs. Thats at least what the mech said to me when i had my plugs changed..... correct me if i am wrong not sure... :)

im not a football fan im afraid :p

righ.. ignition coils do infact connect to plugs via the leads. so.. when the coil has gone the engine will run lumpy and sound like a misfire, can also back fire out of the air filter, which isnt fun to stand and watch... sounds painful as hell!

your best bet is to get it looked at by someone that knows thier stuff. because it would also be an injector problem.

so yeah.. go see a man about it :p

Bad news, just heard back from the garage, Diagnostic shows throttle body problem. I had this replace back in March but apparently it has to be programmed into the ECU by FIAT. Apparently I'm looking at £300 all in. Anyone know about the validity of this whole "programming in" theory or can it just be changed over like I had done last time?

Cheers for your input Kayley :)

Grrrr, I'm sooo pissed off right now!

Quick update on this, Rob (MADGT) was on the blower last night about some guy who only worked on Fiats in my neck of the woods but unfortunately I can't get hold of him (Cheers anyway Rob). Car booked in with Fiat tomorrow for a post mortem, however, just went to start her up and........

........it doesn't start. (Cue hitting the steering wheel repeatedly and screaming "Why oh why oh why!".

Gonna get on to Green Flag now and see if my policy covers towing from home to a garage, if not I'm screwed!

After all my praising of Fiats to mates and girlfriends alike she repays me like this!

Oh well, really up **** street now. Apparently I only have level 1 cover so the car has to be a mile away from my home, so if it was at the garage it was at yesterday then great, as I drove it home then I'm not covered. Just ended up swearing at the woman from churchill as my breakdown is through them and any upgrade will take 24 hours!! FFS!!!!!
