Car questions all not so bright

Battery

clock wiped it self and took a while to start (few turns)
car not run yesterday
also its slightly cold
should i get a new one

That's all I can think off for now

I thought i would open a thread for simple daft questions
I will probably have more soon
Is there a miscellaneous car questions stub thing somewhere?

How do i bump it mate says into second and a hill

is the punto light enouth to be bumped on a flat road?
Or will i need to push it up hill on my own

also do i just push it along in second and turn key

will it hurt my car?

you shouldn't push start a car with a CAT unburnt fuel will kill the catalist... then again if its that flat the fuel pump wont prime either

Jump leads are the answer.......

need either a hill, or a mate, or be fairly strong, but watch you dont run yourself over
im sure i managed to bump start mine on my own, plus a very slight incline.

unburnt fuel in the cat is not really that big a worry on puntos tbh

if you keep doing lots of short trips with sounds. lights, heater, rear dimister on even a good battery will go flat.
when you reach destination turn all stuff of and leave enging running for 5-10 minutes before turning it off will help

Rev it a lot while driving (once it's warm obviously) or a bit after you're done. Brava's done this before now (bodyshop had the door open all day with light on followed by a slow, short drive home, followed by a freezing night)n

took it on a fast drive around at dinner 1 hour did 40 miles not fast i know but

also worth greasing your terminals. if you dont have any grease use Mr sheen on the top of the battery (the wax) prevents water and damp sheeting on top of the battery and causing "leekage" between the battery terminals...

If you do a lot of short trips and have a drive way (or a quiet street) get an intelligent battery charger and hook it up every few nights...

dont forget though that the cig lighter is isolated with ignition off so you will need to clip it to the battery directly...

jump starting isn't difficult, get it rolling and when you're going as fast as you can push it jump in, select 1st or 2nd then dump the clutch. Be careful about hitting the accelerator when you feel it coming to life, you could whizz off into a parked car or lamp post if you're not careful.

I've done it on my own once before, took 4 attempts, I got it started and collapsed in a puddle of sweat.
