Hi a couple of days ago my car was running fine I went to a petrol station filled it up as soon as I started the engine the car began to jerk and the engine management light came on, I managed to get it home and a couple of hours later it was fine, but driving it home yesterday the car light was back on and the car was struggerling to get past 20mph please help

Sounds possibly like it could be throttle position sensor. I'm not a mechanic but I had this problem with my car and that's what it was. Basically the sensor behind the accelerator had started to go and therefore wasn't sending a strong enough signal to the other sensor. Most have electronic accelerators instead of cables. No idea why as I think they just cause more problems. Take it to a garage and them to plug it into a code reader but this is my best bet on the problem.

Good luck!!

Assuming you don't have a 1.6 or a GT then buy the cables and download IAW-Scan (its free). There currently is no easy way to read codes from the 1.6 engines, and on a GT you can do a blink test.

Which punto have you got??

on the 1.1 / 1.2 the oxygen sensor is about the only thing to put the MIL on..,
it this right blu73 ??

no on the 1108 or 1242 FIRE there is loads and loads of things that can put the management light on. Any sensor shorting out or supplying the ecu with an out of expected range value, misfires, loads of stuff - is why i always suggest getting the codes read first before you do anything other than a general look around for loose wires, sparks from HT leads etc etc..

So long as the battery has not been disconnected since the light has come on it will be stored in the ecu even if it only flashed on for a moment. The code will not always tell you exactly whats wrong but points you in right direction.

But the 1.6 has an ecu from GM and then its tweaked in true fiat fashion so the GM software you can get free can't read it, seems FiatExaminer is the only thing that can read the 1.6 ecu but even then most Fiat garages don't have one anymore but they cost thousands when they come up 2nd hand as well.

If the OP has a 55/60/75/85 they just need a laptop, a 'Vagcom Cable', a 'Fiat 3-pin to OBD Adaptor' and to download IAW-Scan
