Hey Punto Peeps!

coming up a steep bank earlier the car seem to loose nearly all power and die, tried to start it back up for the engine to turn over slowly like the battery was very nearly dead!

eventualy it started up and sounded awful, down 1 or 2 cylinders, at first i thought it had maybe dropped a valve or something but it sounds ok when the powers off and the revs are dying.

i'm thinking maybe a coil pack or jumped a timing mark or something?

luckily it broke down outside a pub so i got to have a pint while deciding what to do! it did get me the 2 mile home, struggling up hills in 2nd gear foot to the floor lol.

whole car stinks of an eggy/stricken match smell, got a bit of pre-ignition when i turned the engine off too.

in almost a year she's never let me down!

Your explaation sounds feasible,, but could anything have been dislodged during your journey/s that day?, some pot-holes still in existence on the roads (post winter), can still causea car some damge depending on it's depth...

uhm, nothing i can think of so probably not, i'll take a trip down the scrappy and get a coil pack, hopefully that's all it is!

quickly took to of the plugs out from each coil, both sparking.

never dealt much with coils but i thought if one went you lost both plugs?

if it's not the coils could it be a crank sensor?

will have another look when ive got more time, cheers

all plugs are firing, cleaned them up while they were out, back firing through the airbox now lol, if i could find my easy start i could rule at a possible fueling problem.

if a crank sensor has gone, can it cause the plugs to fire at the wrong time or would it just not make a spark at all?

** tried the easy start, still no life, smoking through airbox. if i had a comp tester i could see if the engines alright, doubtful at this stage.

Try dropping the zorst off at the manifold & see if it runs, smell & smoke blowing back through the TB / air filter sounds like a blocked Cat or silencer.

cheers for the reply ;)

forgot to add, got a wee hole in the flexi joint on the zorst, scanned the ECU with my mates little gadget and it's not registering any faults, guess that rules out any sensors

when you put the leads back on did you put them on in the right place?
if not it could be sparking the wrong plugs at the wrong time..

Also sounds flooded..... what happerns when you try to start it with foot to the floor? - this seemed to cure the panda's starting issue... and do you have a leak in the exaust manifold??
