If a car battery goes dead and you have to jump start the car, how long should you keep the car running to get a decent ammount of charge back in the battery?

The manual for the Bravo states to never bump start the car to avoid damagin the catalyst and possibly other things.

at least half an hour minimum really if you are just idling it, but half n hour of motorway driving should fully charge the battery, well thats what i've been told.

Thanks Ed

Anyone else have any thoughts on this???

in my experiance (not with my bravo but fiesta), when the battery was dead and i had a jump, i litterally had it running for about 5 mins. Then switched engine off. Started fine again bout 2 hrs later

the rule of thumb is, 20 mins running to put back what the starter takes out. Not hurt to put a trickle charge on all night

I run it for about 10 miles, other side of town and back and its fine
