General Cancelling a new car order?

Probably a new thread jobby... But I'd say not to worry. Dealerships don't 'BUY' your car from Fiat until you pay them... so it does sound genuinely like a targets thing

Having said that, until you take delivery, don't pay for it. You won't have time to fully inspect it, and you don't know if they'll have to register it or what not.

I originally ordered a 1.2 sport for my girlfiend just before the abarth came out, about 6 weeks later we were driving past the garage and decided to pop in and ask how the car was coming on. There it was the "new abarth500" sod this I thought im having that, and promptly cancelled the sport and drove out the showroom in the abarth...

Turns out the dealers get a limited number of 500s so the cancelled ordered just went into the dealers stock and I took one from the forecourt, job done everyones a winner

MISS R - Don't pay for your car until you get it.

SUZIE - If you are serious about the risk of threatening to cancel your car, i.e. the dealer may call your bluff and say "OK then, no probs..." it is worth taking the gamble. My brother ordered a Renault people carrier (the big one) about 7 years ago, optioned up to the hilt. The delivery kept slipping, so he got fed up, found a Citroen C8 to the same spec and colour which was available within 7 days, got a written quote from the Citroen Dealer with delivery guarantee. So he went back to Renault to check on his car, was told "a few weeks yet Sir", responded that he would cancel and buy the Citroen, showed the letter, and HEY PRESTO - Renault said they would have his ordered car the next day!

This worked for my brother and he spent 3 years wizzing about in a Renault, but it is a gamble if the Dealer just accepts your cancellation then you loose....

Suze, like everyones been saying just hold in there! Just think of the lovely accessories you can buy in the meantime while you're waiting! Having a new car is much nicer than having a used one...I've seen some for sale from dealers - 1 year old with low mileage, pretty much the same spec as mine and the same price that I paid! You don't want to be paying the same amount of money out on a used car! I was quoted 6-8 weeks and it ended up taking 10 weeks but it was well worth the wait! And you just can't beat that 'new car smell'!

Agreed. Went and had a looksee at mine today, was able to get in, still had plastic on the seats, but you cannot beat that brand new car smell! Pick it up tomorrow!(y)

Have spoken to the dealer today and he can only tell me that its at status 16 ..no idea how long it will be  He said if I want to cancel the order he will refund my deposit. He is going to update me daily ...oh yeah  I have told him that I am going to look and see what else is available while I wait.

I am not unrealistic if it was going to be another couple of weeks I wouldnt mind so much, but if I am going to have to wait another 4-6 weeks I feel really let down.
Thanks everyone for your kind support

You've come this far Suzey! If you're to buy anything else from the factory it's going to take even longer :(

I know it's a crap feeling to have and I was in the same position a bit over a month ago no knowing when it was going to turn up but all of a sudden it'll be with you and all of the evil thoughts will disappear :)

Hi Suzey,

I had on order a lovely BNW lounge... and then changed my mind about it, asked to change the order but as it was too late I decided to dich it and went for a stock Mod blue sport... I never regretted it and I got it within a week! I did lost my deposit as there was no reason to reject the car other than my change of heart on the model and colour, but as I said still no regrets! With the handsight I just couldn't have lived with THAT lounge speedo... But anyway, good luck in anything you decide to do!

I thought at first that I wouldn't like the lounge speedo but it's absolutely fine to be honest. If you bought a lounge you'd probably think it weird when you got into a sport with the different speedo background.

Well I've had the good news that my car has arrived! :D (sorry Suze! :( )

I am waiting for 1st September (partially for the plate and partially because I have no job till then) but they asked if I could pay ASAP. This worries me, he said it was for their targets etc, which I could see being right, but especially with loads of businesses going bust at the mo I'm definately not too keen on the idea... Opinions please? (I don't want to hi-jack so can start a new thread if needed...)

Sounds like the perfect time to start not returning their phone calls, giving them stupid excuses like their has been a delay at the bank, or say sorry I can't check on that you'll have to call back later. :D

For what its worth, I ordered my 500 in March 2008, and waited till mid Sept to collect ( my choice, it was a birthday present to self ).
I had the shock if being told in April that I could not have the interscope sound and was ready to cancel my order as this was what i was paying for and was advertised as an option .(dealer was ok).
However I didnt cancel and it was horrible waiting for it to arrive seeing 500's appearing on he road.
Good news was I got exactly what i ordered, on the date form the dealer and was glad I waited. ( previous car purchased was from stock & didnt wait, & I did sort of regret doing it as it wasnt exactly what i wanted.)

Moral is - If the car ordered is exactly what you want then be patient & wait, if you take one from stock, then you will always have in the back of your mind, that you should have waited.

Suggestion - Politely hassle the dealer, & tell them you will hassle them, i have found that they dont want an annoying ( if polite ) customer pestering them every day / week, & will prob try and sort you out sooner ( try for some freebies as well ).
