hi everyone, slightly different question here, I’ve bought my daughter a 2014 500 0.9 105bhp twin air. With 70000 miles. From a garage in Abertillery in South wales

Car looks and drives ok by my untrained eye, so I’ve put a £100 down to secure it while they get it ready for me,

The only issue I could see while driving it was whilst I’m 2nd and 3rd when you were getting the revs up there was a vibration through the gearstick, I’ve done some google searching and it looks like it could be an expensive fix if it’s clutch or DMF,

It has a service history however mostly just receipts from garages who carried the work out, I’ve also read I should be looking at the boot and potential issues with multi air?? I’ve no clue with cars so any help would be appreciated, I’ll gladly lose the £100 if it means dodging a bullet?

The boot is easily fixable for 100-200 pounds when it starts being an issue I wouldn't worry too much about it, any decent electrician can fix it. This happened to me about 10 years ago and hasn't been a problem since.

That may be your answer. I think you have right to refund of deposit if you piad remotely / via internet.
Yes, I’ve read that these cars have issues with the engine and clutch, I just don’t want this being an expensive mistake for her, alternatively I’ve just seen a Peugeot 108 1.2 on a 16 plate with 45000 for same money.

Pandas are very reliable in my experience. The 0.9 TA is a highly complex engine and probably best avoided. The complex bit is the weakness. The 1.2 is less powerful but more economical. I think the Peugeot 1.2 engine is not a great thing and while the car is nice on the faceof it, on reliability grounds not my 1st choice. Look for a 500 S 1.2 would be my suggestion. Nice colours and good trim with the sensible engine No nasty suprises. The 105 will go very quickly, but take someone along who really knows the TA who can judge and compare. I have a TA but I would hesitate to buy one second hand unless some manufacturer warranty was left.

If having a repair costing around £1000 in the first few months of ownership would be a cause for concern, do not buy this car. There is a good chance that you will need to replace the clutch and DMF in the near future. These are both wear and tear parts, so unlikely to be covered by any kind of used car warranty.

If you are unfortunate enough to have a uniair failure, not uncommon at this sort of mileage, budget another £1500 to sort that one out.

An 11 yr old 105TA is not a car I'd want to own.

A 1.2 500 would be a far wiser choice. And if your daughter hasn't much driving experience, likely a lot cheaper to insure, too.

In mine too, especially in 1.2 form.

Despite being built on basically the same floorpan, the 500 has a few known issues that simply aren't there on the Panda. And the practicality of having rear doors and a larger cargo area shouldn't be discounted, either.

So much really good advice being given above. A 1.2 Panda would be the "no brainer" in terms of practicality, insurance, ease of repair etc, etc. But I completely understand, the appeal of the 500 which has a much better "cred" rating. If it's to be a 500 I'd still recommend the 1.2 without giving the Twin air engine a second thought. A twin air needs to be bought new, cherished, over maintained, treated to only the very best engine specific lubricant and you have to be "lucky". Pretty much nothing would convince me to buy a used one even if it had a cast iron service record - although they do sound like an absolute hoot to drive!

I have both my daughters driving Pandas. One says its just a car, and the other loves her Panda, but she loved the 169 more than her newer 319 version. Mrs Panda Nut also drives a Panda. Now I do like the 500 and i really like the Abarth 500s but give me a Panda anyday. Just as much fun but more usabale for anything more than single person transport. Access for an old couple is so easy in the 4x4 just about as easy to get inand out of as is possible. We have now clocked up a combined overall total of 250,000 miles and for that milage the problems and service replacements have been remarkably slight and acceptably low cost Overall I am still very well suited. Depreciation has been less than anticiapted too especially with the 4x4s. Whats not to like.
