I'm aware that there is currently a similar thread by another member, but I've been in contact and found out that this alarm I'm planning on buying is by another manufacture so am for now asking some direct questions linked to this unit.

I've got a PDF of the instalation instructions. Now I'm almost sure that the indicators on the Stilo are CAN operated?

So in theiory this alarm, if fully Stilo and CAN disposed should be able to operate the indicators via the CAN. What has stumped me though is the fact that according to the fitting instructions its got to 'indicator light' feeds. These on a regular system would be fitted to left and right indictor wiring looms. On these instructions it states that these are not used when the system is installed in the Stilo. So I'd assume this means they're CAN operated using the CAN connections (3 connections in total).

These connections are;
  • Can bus line - to WHITE wire pos. 10 of the 32 pins BLACK connector
  • Can bus line - to BLUE wire pos. 28 of the 32 pins BLACK connector
  • Can Bus - to LIGHT BLUE/WHITE wire pos. 34 of the 36 pins BLUE connector
Does anyone know what the above 3 connections do, or if any of them are linked to the activation of the cars indicators / hazzards?

Many thanks.

Jon.

FYI jon, the stilo does need a seperate feed to the indicators. i.e. wont work over can (at least form what ive read and seen). somewhere (maybe i posted it i cant remember) i i have the pinout and colours for the connectors on the back of the fusebox connector. but id be willing to bet a shiney peny that the cabel numbers in the pdf are wrong, unless they used a 1.4 to write the guide....from memory the two can wires are any two pink/black, and pink/white (cant remember which one is high or low) and the thid is just hazard trip...(think it might be light blue/whit but cant remember...)....hope that helps, do post back if it works...

Well I've been throughing best offers at the seller all day and he's not budged on the BIN (whats the point of having a best offers tab?! :bang:), so looks like I'm paying full asking price, but at £100 delivered still a good price.

Will probably buy it tomorrow. If it doesn't work though I'll be sending it back :p

Will keep you updated (y)

And finally, to prove it is possible to install an aftermarket CANBUS Alarm

Completed today :D

Had to remove half the car's interior, including the body computer, but worth it in my opinion.

So here's proof, aftermarket DIY CANBUS alarms can be purchased and installed, although if anyone else attempts it they need to be 100% sure about what they're doing, as if you muck up the body computer during instalation then there may be tears!

thinking about buyying one of those alarms in the next few days.
just a few questions.
how much of the cars wiring do you have to mess with?
and is it a days work or more?

cheers

Will need to completly remove body computer / fuse box in the Stilo to be able to use the indicator flashing function.

About 6 hours work for someone who has fitted a few alarm systems in the past like myself. 6 Hours to fit it tidily anyway (y)

just had a look at a few other alarms that claim to do the same job which are slightly cheap. this one states that the ECU may need to be programmed to accept the alarm to work with the ECU on the car. did you have this problem?

the alarm i found: http://www.in-car-stuff.com/shop/falcon-predator-canbus-alarm-system-p-374.html?ad=froogle

Nope. The alarm I fitted was programmed for the Stilo, so no intrigration issues. They're programmed specifcally as all CAN systems use different siginals, even the Panda uses different signals to the Stilo for example. TBH I'd spend the extra £40. That system linked doesn't look the best of quality.

Confused!?

I am!

Why fit an aftermarket alarm to a car which already has an alarm/imobiliser/

Mark

Car didn't origionally have an alarm.

Think he probably meant to say he hasnt used the immobiliser function cause it has a factory fitted one

Correct, got my words in the vid mixed up. Ment to say 'standard factory fitted immobiliser'.

hi jon, what wires did you use for the canbus integration and the indicator integration?, also did your car already have an alarm? it seems this way from the vid :S

but its great to see that it IS possible!!!

Nope, no alarm origionally. Wiring was as listed above in this thread. Colours on Stilo wiring loom are NOT correct though. Needs to be wired by pin numbers on the plug harnesses to enable correct instalation (y)
