General can you get LW on the radio

Quick question can you get long wave on the radio (LW 198 for the cricket). I know it dosn't have a long wave button but most radios MW goes down to 198 mine dosent . Am i missing something?

LW is a totally different broadcast system to MW as far as I remember. From what I have read you cannot get LW on the radios in the 500. Someone on here may prove me to be an idiot, but I really don't think you can get it.

Fariniac Yes sorry your right MW is not LW . I meant AM not MW

Stu yes you can get radio 4 on FM , but the cricket is only on LW or digital. thanks anyway

Long Wave, Medium Wave (and indeed Short Wave) are all AM (amplitude modulated) systems and are therefore differ only in frequency range from each other - it's just a matter of the tuning range of the radio itself. FM stands for frequency modulated and is a different system.

This is correct. I believe if you just keep tuning down on Medium Wave/AM, it will drop down to LW frequencies.

By cycling through the different audio sources using my steering controls I can select "MW" or "LW" (along with the others) on the radio display. I've never tried tuning in with it though.
