i drove the car fo about 20 min then stoped left for about 3 min then moved it about 20 meters and the water came out of the filler bottle top the fan cuts in for short spells so that seems to work the oil looks and smells fine i am not too sure where to start to find the problem

Start by refilling the coolant and bleeding it properly.
If there is a reoccurrance, get a new pressure cap as the first port of call. They can fail.

what car, what engine? how long have you had it. has it been looked after. when was the coolant last changed?
Is the cooling sytem properly bled, when was the coolant last changed?
Fault could be a stuck thermostat, air in the system, a small blockage somewhere or just as simple as a fault expansion cap. This is where i'd start, the cap.

it is a 2000 x plate seicento sporting 1.1 have only had a week i have no idea of any history but there was a filler bottle cap in the boot when i got the car i have no idea on how to bleed the rad some help would be great the fan would run for a long time if the car wos over heating would it if you romove the filler cap when hot and running the water pulses up the bottle then goes down
