Cambelt on Marea Diesel

Hi,

I've got a Marea 2.4 Diesel on a 98R (so it's the old diesel, not the JTD).

It's got nearly 81k on the clock, and I guess it needs the cam belt done.

I used to have my other cars belts changed roughly before time, but being spoled by company cars I have let the Mareas slip.

Desira in Bury St Eds have quoted £350 just for the cam belt and £270 for the rest of the 72k service. I usually "service" the thing myself as looking through the service schedule the only thing I can't do is the computer test so why waste the money?

However, I'm not up to doing a cambelt, and was wondering if firstly the big diesels had the same problem as the rest of the engines with cam belts, and secondly if £350 for belt and tensioner change seemed about right?

I know it's nealry 10k over the mark, but as it sepnds most of it's life doing 2500rpm on the motorway I am figuring that it is not under as much stress as it could be.

Second thing is - does anyone know how much a windscreen replacement might cost - I don't want to claim on the insurance as my girlfriend did and although the NCD didn't drop the premium went up bt £100!

Thanks
Garry

Re Marea Cambelt

I've just bought the same car with the same mileage. I got the selling garage to do the cambelt as part of the sale and was told it was normally about £400, so £350 sounds about right!

Windscreen

I'm not sure how much a windscreen would cost for a Marea, but put this into perspective: My Seicento Sporting needed a replacement and RAC Autowindscreens told me a screen for the cento retailed at £200 or something like that. So i would have thought the Marea would be more as that is also bonded and a big windscreen.

regards,
Paul

Service

I have a Bravo JTD which is due it's 72,000 service later this year. I've been quoted £350 inclusive from my local Fiat dealer, who empasised that it was vital that the cambelt was changed at this particular time. If I were you I'd get it done ASAP as you may find it failing soon, which will result in a larger bill.
