Easy to do with engine in car? i'm only really concerned about getting the cover off as opposed to changing the belt. From the Porter manual i've got it looks as if all the bolts are down the bottom by alternatorso might be awkward to get to.

And how much are belts generaly? or is it the same as anything.. different brand, different price

Third bolt is very close to that alternator belt wheel. You can easy find it by fingers. Then you need socket 10mm - once you untidy it you can use just socket and your fingers. Last Sunday it took 5 mins to take her off...:)
It's more difficult to put it back:(

Ta Dave. They got Dayco on shop4partas for 7quid so seems a bargain.

I had a look after work and its very thin and shiny, so best replace it now i think. i had a look at it running, to see if it was split, and it sound like it was rubbing on something hard to identify the sound but it was bottom end so perhaps something to do with alternator belt too.

Could work out a bugger to get the whole cover off, is it recomended to work from underneath to get the bottom bolt out?

No need to...All bolts can be taken out from top...
then drive with front wheel on 2 bricks and turn wheels max right
It's easier to take alternator belt wheel off from engine when you lie on the floor and mark some points to make sure that everything will be on the same possition....
of course it better if you've got underneath access:)
